Pepco cash keeps rolling in for @kenyanmcduffie! Days ago, Pepco CFO Elizabeth Morgan Downs O’Donnell gave the legal max. McDuffie let Pepco raise utility bills hundreds of dollars a year. Now Pepco is repaying the favor. List of McDuffie Pepco payoffs ⤵️ sierraclub.org/dc/blog/2026/…

I’m running for DC Council because I know a better Ward 1 is not just possible, it is within reach. We can and should make it easier and more affordable to live in DC. Over the course of this campaign, we've released 10 policy platforms that aim to do just that:

McDuffie was the deciding vote to approve DC's disastrous no-bid sports betting contract. All these years later, DC is still trying to fix the mess. Now, the Maryland businessman who made millions on the deal is returning the favor by spending $45,000 to make McDuffie Mayor.
New today: After over 15 years of on-and-off controversies, most famously involving that botched sports gambling app, D.C.'s lottery contractor is severing ties with a local businessman. axios.com/local/washington-d…

During all of 2025, Kenyan McDuffie held an hour (and 3 minutes) worth of oversight as chair of the committee responsible for utilities. No wonder our Pepco bills skyrocketed under his watch!
On the DC Council, I held oversight hearings on public utilities. Janeese Lewis George didn’t show up for a single one. Now she wants to talk about the cost of public utilities — during a campaign. DC deserves a Mayor who was on this issue before it was politically convenient.

Janeese has been fighting against utility rate hikes on DC residents since her first day on the Council. You were in charge of overseeing PEPCO for 9 years and rubber-stamped astronomical rate hikes.
1 out of every 6 DC residents is behind on their payments to PEPCO. Businesses are shutting down across the District. PEPCO's proposal to raise electricity prices by $135.9 million during a pandemic fails to put people first and must be rejected. Read my testimony to @DC_PSC:

This is Donna Cooper. Previously Pepco’s top lobbyist. She got him to kill an energy affordability measure in 2018. It costs DC families $300-$500 a year. Hundreds of millions for Pepco. A few mins waving a sign. Good deal for Pepco, bad deal for DC. hillrag.com/2026/06/01/chang…

DC had the chance to lock in lower renewable energy rates in 2018 with the Clean Energy DC Act. As Council Committee Chair, McDuffie stripped the provision from the bill as a favor to Pepco lobbyists. Today, DC residents are paying ~$24 more a month as a result of the decision.

At EEI 2026. At my first panel Kim Greene, CEO of Georgia Power, is talking about the importance of their rate freeze. Rate freezes used to be a fringe proposal. If even Georgia Power can embrace it, worth considering how much bolder policymakers can go.

These tenants are so important for creating an affordable, clean, reliable utility. We can have a grid that works for our communities and local economy, and not just act as a wealth transfer to corporations.

As the climate crisis intensifies, our plan focuses on lowering energy costs, investing in renewable energy, fighting for relief for low-income residents, and eventually moving towards municipally-owned utilities. Read the full platform: aparnafordc.com/platform

probably the first time i’ll be voting in a democratic primary and quite literally not fully like a single candidate i’m voting for. this dc pool is so bleh.
