It riffs on Star Wars, Harry Potter, and the works of C S Lewis, Kurt Vonnegut, Terry Pratchett and Enid Blyton, with a dash of ‘Life on Mars’, to create the extraordinary world of Arilon and the brilliant adventures of Arthur Ness. It’s great fun (of course) but it also tells something about the manipulation of fear for toxic purposes and the dangers of severing the threads that bind us together as a community.
