Guildford residents demanding the government and Surrey County Council take action on the climate and ecological emergency. Everyone is needed. JOIN US! 💚🌏🌱
DECISION TIME FOLKS
We've tried everything we can think of for an "easy" way to save the planet: conservation days, scattering seeds, petitions
That hasn't halted ecocide - & it won't
The only option left is to join together & show in huge numbers we do not accept ecocide
Our planning group have discussed this in connection with Wisley Village (2.5k houses). All those houses totally dependent on cars.
Clearly the message that we are in an ecological emergency is not getting through.
EVs are heavy and cars are getting bigger. Consumers are given total freedom to choose, and no thought given to air quality or the fact that bigger cars, bigger wheels, kick up a lot more particulate pollution.

The criminality of extractivism continues, with multiple countries racing to carve up any countries they can.
Russia, USA, China, UK, Israel and more all carving out something:
- aluminium (packaging, cars, aeroplanes)
- gold (mostly just for storing in bars)
- nickel (EVs)
Resource colonialism has been going on for centuries.
Maybe it started with raw materials for houses, then moved to precious minerals and metals, and now its absolutely anything that can be grabbed.
Look at Guinea and you will see how things continues.
‼️ BREAKING ‼️A coalition of environmental groups including J4C disrupt the entrance to the Africa Energies Summit at the Mayfair Hotel. Activists dropped an ‘END OIL COLONIALISM’ banner from the entrance of the hotel

Good news in what sense?
Not good news for wildlife.
Not good news for green spaces and ecosystems.
Not good news for emissions.
The Local plan should be adapting to the ECOLOGICAL EMERGENCY. What part of the word emergency, isn't understood?

Finally the M25 Junction 10 (with A3) improvement have been given the go-ahead by @grantshapps this is very good news for #Guildford as a key inrastructure requirement for delivery of the Local Plan and much needed housing.
200m on bike lanes, but 28 BILLION on new roads.
It's clear that there is simply no intention to end the air pollution crisis, to end car culture, or to address the climate and ecological emergency.
Join us tonight, when we will be making plans for Clean Air Day.
Lucky for Surrey County Council, most people have no idea that air pollution is so bad. We are here to make people know.

Last year, we stood here during rush hour, with our banner for Clean Air Day
1 of our rebels subsequently had to get an inhaler to cope with breathing difficulties.
To the right they've just built dozens of new flats, wedged bet. this road & the A3.

Clean air day is one month away. If no one says anything, things will continue to get worse, and our politicians will understand that we accept dirty air as a matter of normality.
It is NOT normal to have to suffer asthma attacks, stunted lungs, lung disease, heart disease.
Can you #DoOneThing for us today? Share this tool with 10 friends and ask them to respond to this consultation - we need thousands of people to tell the government it should be doing more to clean up our air. #CleanAirNowbit.ly/m4ltargettool
This is no great rocket science. Every day we are depleting the natural world, because the system -built upon patriarchal values - has extracted year after year.
To stop this collapse, we need urgent degrowth.

Global resource use has exceeded the planetary boundary every year since 1997. The global North is responsible for 70% of this overshoot - which is a direct cause of ecological collapse and mass extinction. Explanatory blog post coming soon... huzaifazoom.com/hickel/mf_ov…
France, parts of USA, India and East Africa are facing drought or near-drought conditions.
Irreversible damage is being forecast to French grain crops from hot/dry weather this week, after low spring rainfall.
Drought threatens hopes French wheat could ease Ukraine shortfall
Children in school are being taught about how to prepare to live in a world that no longer exists and promote an economic system that is killing all life on Earth with mass extinction of bees and wildlife happening now
Instead they should be taught how to save the natural world
Famine in Africa has nothing to do with organic farmers in Europe, and all to do with who controls access to food. Even if it were a productivity issue, we know that the we can double - yes double - yields in 5-10yrs in African smalholding systems with agroecology
Syngenta boss calls for abandoning organic farming: “people are starving in Africa because we are eating more and more organic foods.” #warprofiteersarchyde.com/syngenta-boss-ca…
On this Mother’s Day we give a special shout-out to wild African female elephant, Bora, who's defied all odds and kept her rare newborn twins alive! Over the past four months, Bora has managed to feed both hungry calves despite a serious drought in northern Kenya.
