So so proud of @drkerrymeltzer for sharing this with the world - growing around our grief, appreciating the joy and beauty surrounding us and recognizing the profound size of our collective and individual loss ❤️ thank you for these words
I started trying to put my grief into words shortly after Maeve & Gideon died. It was hard to write, but it was also cathartic. I hope it resonates with some. 1/1

I still can’t quite believe it is real since it’s been years and years in the making and endless hours of work on so many peoples parts but our paper detailing the work we have done/folks are doing around segregated care is finally out in the world! 1/ url6649.tandfonline.com/ls/c…
There is still much to be done and larger systems are at play here but hoping that this work adds to the conversations and highlights the important role medical students can play and the impact segregated care has on our medical training, but most importantly our patients 5/
Excited to share this work on the older jail-incarcerated population in NYC -2015-18. Summarized expertly below - big takeaways: the number of older Jail-incarcerated folks is increasing, they are more likely to be incarcerated for probation/parole violation, (1/x)
Our current system is not built to provide appropriate care for older incarcerated adults. Specific changes have been implemented in NYC jails to provide better care and advocate effectively to get folks home - as with many things, this is a stopgap for a systemic issue (3/x)
I am so thankful for the tremendous amount of mentorship I gained through this project from the always inspiring @rachaelbedard, @RossMacDonaldMD and many others at NYC H H- particularly our co-author and friend, Fatos Kaba, who died before seeing this project to its completion
