It is a moral failure of our country that we changed the rules to create a trillionaire while doing nothing about the 771,000 homeless and over 18 million who do not have enough to eat.

Rolling Stone's Stephen Rodrick, the day after the primary: the hype was a self-fulfilling prophecy in right-wing media. The grassroots army existed in a feed, not on a doorstep. Who paid to keep the numbers inflated, and what they bought: rollingstone.com/politics/po…

The blue banner behind the cage is Polymarket. A betting market is now a paid sponsor on the White House lawn. its competitor Kalshi paid influencers to hype Spencer Pratt's odds in a mayor's race he finished third in. They are not buying bets. They are buying belief. x.com/royermattw/status/2065…

Spencer Pratt was never winning the LA mayor's race. Every number that said he was had been bought. The betting market: 75% of $78 million on Kalshi wagered on him, while influencers Kalshi paid hyped the odds with "paid partnership" stamped on their posts. His $3.75 million war chest: 83% of it from people who can't vote in LA. The "grassroots movement": AI-generated videos, championed by The Free Press, which was so deep in its own bubble it printed his "second-place finish." He finished third. Polls had him at 22. He promised he'd clear 50 and skip the runoff. He got 26. Trump cried fraud. Musk cried fraud. The vote was the only number in this race nobody could buy.

just three quick points: - the effectiveness and unintended consequences are not germane to the argument - you can implement a policy not knowing what will happen, and things can go off the rails in weird ways. i don't think this is dispositive for either of our theories. i think there is a charitable and uncharitable reading - but the uncharitable one (fraud machine) just doesn't do what it should (juice the vote or produce statistical anomalies). - if there really are hundreds of thousands or millions of fake ballots, then it should be extraordinarily easy to post the receipts; or at least it should be for the US Attorney investigating this. even if CA doesn't cooperate at all, the numbers will show up somewhere -- and this has to be shown! I might have to eat my hat! But I don't think I will. - and for my last point about midterm fuckery, i'm not specifically accusing you of doing this, but i definitely think trump and republican operatives are consciously manufacturing outrage because they think it will work to their advantage. trump truthed this intentionally, prior to that CA election discourse was not prominent.

The fact remains that strict ID requirements measurably reduce turnout among eligible but low-propensity populations, and this is well replicated. Mail voting does raise legitimate participation! The people who designed this system genuinely believe, as I do, that the marginal eligible citizen kept from voting by onerous friction is the larger harm vs. the vanishingly small # of ineligible votes let through by CAs more permissive system. I get that you think that tradeoff is unwise, but that doesn't make it corrupt, immoral or fraudulent on its face. When viewed as a "maximum franchise system," I argue this is morally superior to a strict ID scheme.

There is no expunging the stain of Trump’s two impeachments. Or avoiding the conclusion that the President cares little about the economic hardships of the American people. His priority is only, ever, Donald Trump.

Florida voters unequivocally banned gerrymandering for partisan gain in their Constitution, which nobody denies is exactly what was done here, but GOP judges are GOP operatives and therefore “so what.”
The ruling in favor of upholding Florida’s new congressional map was 6-1. Justice Jorge Labarga, the sole appointee of Governor of Charlie Crist, dissented. The other 6 justices were appointed by Governor DeSantis.

Did you know LA County is the largest county in the country? With 2,217,796 ballots cast, LA County's vote total exceeds the combined vote count of five of the nation's largest counties that have held primaries so far, which together cast 2,103,322 ballots.

Why is Trump so obsessed with the California primary? The urgency of Trump’s most recent lies about election fraud in the state reflects a grim reality for the aging, twice-impeached president: California will likely spell the end of Republican control over the U.S. House of Representatives. bit.ly/4ec9ymv

No, Sean. It's exhausting. Further, it harms our democracy. We should have a zero tolerance for this hooey after Jan 6th. If anyone has any actual evidence of fraud, it will be dealt with in court. There is NONE in CA. Quit coddling the conspiracists please.

The argument has shifted from “homeless people voted” to “their ballots were commandeered.” That’s a claim of organized election fraud. It requires evidence, not imagination. Homeless Americans are citizens. They have a right to vote. If someone stole their ballots, prosecute them. If you can’t show that happened, then you’re not describing fraud—you’re describing a group of voters whose votes you don’t like.

LA is dying because the stupid-smart people like this pretending to not understand that these fentanyl addicts didn’t suddenly become inspired to civic engagement; their ballots are being commandeered by scammers supporting the machine. He knows this, but plays dumb.
