Disagree, 32 is a good number, groups of 4, it works. 48 is a unbalanced number, pleased for the smaller team fans obviously but the WC is supposed to be the best, this whole group stage is largely irrelevant.
No sporting merit for this move, purely financial and political.

Unpopular opinion: the expanded World Cup is good. Yes, the motive - as always - is financial and the groups are too many games to eliminate too few teams. But that is outweighed by its significance for Bosnians, Haitians, Uzbekis, Cape Verdeans. Immeasurable excitement, pride.
