first person to spin up a KYC-bolt-on system for frontier labs mints a pretty penny

i am once again asking why people advocating for offensive use of trade war measures (not defensive) by the EU expect a different outcome than an uneasy cold-war standoff due to mutually assured industrial destruction as has happened between the US and china.
Europe should classify ASML/Zeiss/Besi/all the laser and CVD tech as a security concern and limit sales to factories and projects in European & allied countries only. Time the go for the jugular of the US chip re-shoring ecosystem.

i can't think of nice words for those thinking the US couldn't and wouldn't just strike back. reminder that the EU is getting about 25% of its natural gas from the US. then there is complete dependence on US software for chip design. completely pointless to hoard ASML.

>italy bets big on nuclear >'finally the nuclear renaissance is upon us for real!!!' >it's SMRs
Italy is officially on the path to a nuclear renaissance. The Lower Chamber has approved a landmark delegated law to reintroduce nuclear power into the national energy mix. Prime Minister Meloni is betting big on SMRs to secure Italyโ€™s industrial future. ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡นโ˜ข๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘‡

word on the street is that in order to pass the jane street 'interview' your pulse should never go above 85

You go to a Jane Street interview and the interviewer has 4 monitors on his desk, facing you, with goatse, meatspin, war footage, 2g1c visible. Disgusted, you get up to leave. As you're walking out the door, they chidingly shout that you don't have what it takes for finance.

number of hormuz strait crossings is the wrong metric either way, only the amount of energy transported matters. could be even true that the number increased but it's all tiny tankers (are there that many available?), or other ships are being counted due to increased attention.
I didnโ€™t realize we are now at the โ€œmaking shit upโ€ phase of the analysis. JPMโ€™s EM team seems to be in the game of making shit up. Good job. โ€œ200% of pre-conflict levelsโ€ are the dumbest words ever written by a human being so far in this conflict. insights.windward.ai

did JPM get recruited into the global jawboning effort? or is this the result of trying to find reasons why oil prices are relatively low given the circumstances?

25x productivity increase in proofreading transcribed handwriting: "A human then checks the flagged words visually against the originals and makes corrections. This catches 111 or 80% of the 140 errors with a human only needing to review 4% of the text."
Crazy thing with Claude Fable 5: when we combine models for verification we achieve effective perfect handwriting recognition with an extremely targeted and limited human review. Modified WER of 0.28% and CER of 0.17%. That is superhuman.

how to get people to watch longform video: make it a compilation of shortform videos "A single Mr. Beast video is equivalent to 200 short form videos"
Replying to @Algon_33
Mr. Beast videos are exhausting, he is a master of compression. Click through 10 of his videos: the first 3 seconds perfectly encapsulate the entire concept and the tone and style of the video. Now, the thing is he does that every 5 seconds. He has a 3-5 second "cut" rule, the camera cuts to a different angle, a new visual focus point etc. He layers 2 to 3 elements per shot audio cues synced to the visuals. He does this for 20 to 30 minute long videos, it's a barrage of audiovisual stimulation that never lets your attention drop with as little informational content as possible he works with a kinetic style around the lower (virtuous) levels of Maslow, hence the kindness altruist content and the pornographic displays of wealth. A single Mr. Beast video is equivalent to 200 short form videos.

a dead giveaway for sloppy thinking anytime someone talks about the MIC without having thought through what it means for an industry to serve exactly one customer. hate lockheed et al as much as you want but they're shackled to the demands of the monopsonist.
The industry has one customer. It responded to that demand signal and built an enterprise calibrated to deliver 70โ€“100 fighter aircraft per year domestically, with another 100โ€“120 for export. The problem is the demand signal has now exceeded that capacity for the first time in decades and production won't spin up overnight. You get the industrial base you chose to fund.

It is my suspicion that, if we get artificial wombs from which children are decanted, we will be astonished at how healthy and happy these children are. A machine-regulated prenatal environment will probably beat natural all to hell, and birth sucks for mama and baby.
Nothing is as fundamental to the human experience as birth. But Silicon Valley and other investors are hoping to change that โ€” to reinvent reproduction. And I have questions.

isn't that exactly what one would expect with AI enabling ever more bespoke and niche apps that weren't practical or economical to create before? it's a good problem to have, like having a vast variety of niche goods on amazon without or barely any reviews.
Massive output uptick due to agentic AI. Complete flat adoption.

the competence crisis can be bleak at times. the UK isn't alone in this. they are paying for hydrogen twice the price of the 2022 natural gas crisis peak. what do they expect will happen to energy costs?
Replying to @watt_direction
This will cost ยฃ4bn p.a. - but cuts household bills by ยฃ115 and saves businesses 7% on their electricity. But if we take this action - we must stop creating contractual liabilities for the future. Take hydrogen - where we are locking in costs ABOVE the gas price peaks of 2022.

imagine meta and not anthropic got to mythos-level AI first, and anyone could just chat with it via the instagram AI support chat. it's good they are behind, but maybe they should be behind much more...
i want to not overclaim but afaic this is the single worst security vulnerability in social media history, for any platform, period i don't think people are giving this the weight it deserves. it's not generically bad. the scope was ~any non-2FA accounts. as in, billions hackable

meta put out a blog post 3 months ago bragging that their AI support reduced account hacks by 30%. yesterday the obama white house instagram got taken over using that same AI. you can't make this up

meta gave their AI support agent the ability to modify your instagram account. no identity verification. people figured this out and accounts are being taken over right now
