Celebrities, rich people and ex-prime ministers should not make health policy. Prostate cancer screening is just not as simple as some are making out. There are real harms caused when people are treated unnecessarily.

We know who pays for the BMA; It’s hard working NHS doctors. Who pays for the misleadingly named “taxpayers’ alliance”? Show us where every penny you’ve ever received has come from, and then we can weight your opinions accordingly, and see whose interests you truly serve.
Our response to the resident doctors announcing strike action Responding to resident doctors announcing new strike action, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will be livid that resident doctors are walking out for the 16th time in three years. “After multiple inflation-busting pay rises and record NHS funding, the BMA is still demanding more despite being offered a deal that would have seen some of them earn six figures. “The new health secretary must stand firm and not allow the NHS to be held hostage by union militancy."

“Take-home pay remains a fifth lower in real terms than it was in 2008... We cannot be asked to negotiate in good faith for weeks, only to be told there is nothing left to negotiate about on pay." @fletchjack After weeks of talks, the Health Secretary has made it clear he won’t improve the offer. Resident doctors now have no choice but to strike.📍 15–19 June

Think I’ve reached the limit to seeing footage of horrific settler violence in the West Bank. Pregnant women attacked, children shot, beaten with clubs, a chained up dog belonging to a Palestinian family being horrifically clubbed to death by an Israeli settler. When does it end?

Removing patients from waiting lists and outsourcing really isn’t a win. Streeting is a fraud.

Patients are waiting 21 hours in A&E on a normal day. At the same time, fully qualified doctors are left unemployed while thousands apply for A&E/GP NHS training jobs. This Government had a chance to fix this crisis. Instead, they removed 1,000 extra doctors training jobs.

🚨NEW: It has been revealed that almost HALF of all NHS hospital trusts are using “non-doctors” to fill doctors roles! 🇬🇧 They are using under qualified staff to fill in “rota gaps”, with the doctors union describing the move as a “potential disaster” The advanced practitioners, AKA physician associates, offer one from a background of paramedics or nursing, however, the BMA has said bosses are going TOO FAR - pushing the staff way beyond their training ⚠️ This genuinely sounds like a disaster waiting to happen 😬

Patients are waiting for care while doctors are waiting for jobs. The NHS says it is short of doctors yet doctors are struggling to find work at all stages, & recently 1,000 extra speciality training jobs were pulled by Wes Streeting & Keir Starmer. This is a workforce crisis.

GMB negotiating team are ready to meet BMA management negotiators but a fundamentally different approach to that taken by the CEO and Board to date is needed. Additional investment in the offer to BMA staff is required. There MUST be an end to below inflation pay awards. 2.

“One of the NHS’s real advantages compared with its peers is that it is really good at keeping doctors’ pay relatively low, which means it can spend more money on drugs and treatment” And there you have it; Doctors are expected to subsidise the NHS through suppressed pay.
