The government doesn’t expand apprenticeships. Employers do. And they’re already not taking the bait: £550 million in unspent apprenticeship levies. You can throw money at the problem to bribe employers, but each new apprentice will cost incrementally more.
My apprenticeship changed my life. It was the golden ticket that enabled me to embark on a 30-year career in international business. So I'm delighted to announce our bold action to expand apprenticeships by 100,000 a year - spreading opportunity across the country.
