National Defense Authorization Act: - Supports NATO expansion in the Western Balkans, including the perspective of Kosovo’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance - Clearly supports the Kosovo–Serbia normalization agreement and calls for its real implementation - Confirms that the final objective is mutual recognition - Rejects any idea of partition, land swaps, or border changes along ethnic lines - Strengthens U.S. support for Western Balkans democracies and their European Union membership process This is not symbolic. On August 29, 1990, the leader of the U.S. Senate, 🇺🇸🇺🇸 Senator Bob Dole, together with Senators William Warner, Edwin Jacob Garn, Donald Lee Nickles, Alfonse Marcello D’Amato, Steven Douglas Symms, and Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy III, arrived for a historic visit to Kosovo. During this visit, the American delegation witnessed firsthand the brutal oppression that Serbian forces were carrying out against the Albanians. Senator Dole spoke firmly before the Serbian representatives and from Prishtina sent a clear message to dictator Milosevic: “Freedom is coming, democracy is coming.” This message remained a turning point and a source of hope for our people. In many of my television appearances, I have mentioned this moment as one of the cornerstones of Kosovo’s path toward freedom and independence. Farewell to Pope Francis, 88. The Holy Father of the Catholic Church chose Albania for his first official visit abroad, and he praised the interfaith harmony that exists among Albanians. He graciously offered audiences to the leaders of Kosovo to discuss the possible recognition by the Vatican of the youngest republic in Europe. I had the pleasure of attending the ceremonial mass he led in St. Peter’s Square in 2016 for the beatification of Mother Teresa, the Albanian-born nun, Nobel Prize laureate, and now a saint of the Catholic Church. May his soul rest in peace!🙏
