Today #Lithuania 🇱🇹 marks the Day of Mourning&Hope 🖤 In the early morning hours of June 14th 1941, russian soldiers brutally woke up thousands of innocent Lithuanians, threw families with elderly parents and babies on their hands to cattle wagons & deported them to Siberia. Long weeks in windowless livestock cars, without food& water. Many died on the way. Their crime - freedom loving Lithuanians. It was the first wave of many. Hundreds of thousands were deported. 1 in 5 Lithuanian families suffered under russian occupation. Families torn apart, lives erased. My mother was born in Siberian barracks. Her 1st childhood friend - Ukrainian baby girl born in the neighbouring room to the Ukrainian deportees. Their crime just the same - freedom loving nation. russia is like an everlasting plague. Today, the Russians launched a stone-cold, combined attack on our energy infrastructure. This is a spit in the face of everything the international community is trying to do to stop this war. It happened right after Putin’s conversation with Trump. After the Americans asked us not to strike Russian energy facilities. At the same time as Putin tries to portray himself as a mediator for the Middle East and attempts to somehow assist his accomplices in Tehran. The level of cynicism is staggering. This war would have ended long ago if the world had reacted with principle and refused to fall for Russian propaganda. I thank everybody in the world who now pushes for the necessary sanctions against Russian oil, and a proper price cap, one that actually hurts the Russian budget. Without that, Putin will continue to ignore everything the world is doing to bring peace. He doesn’t personally need peace, he himself is the war. Only a real cash shortage can convince Russia to be less dangerous to its neighbors.

Tonight, Russia damaged a world architectural monument - St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. This temple was built in the 11th century during Kyivan Rus and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Let me remind you that the Moscow state arose much later.

Imagine waking up to the sound of air raid sirens. Explosions shake your windows. Drones circle overhead. Children sleep in subway stations. A European capital is under siege - missiles raining down, civilians targeted. If this were Paris or Berlin, what would happen?

Trump said he’d know whether Putin is serious about peace in two weeks. Well, time’s up. And guess what? The air raid alert just went off here in Kyiv as we face another night of ballistic missiles and suicide drones. Please let the White House’s begging end and action begin.
