We’re craving amber because it’s the single most human-friendly color technology can emit at night What we’re really craving is a future where tech is aligned with our biology and respectful of our sensitivity It’s a deeply vulnerable yearning for more attunement, warmth, and care emanating from the devices that make up our world

60 fps paper-like screens have been achieved internally

I feel obligated to let my fellow nerds know that paper-like screens are the foundation for healthier computing. Reflective displays means no flicker, natural light, and blue-light-free amber backlight at night. we’ll look back on the 2010-2020s as this utterly insane period where we stared into flickering screens most of our waking hours … wondering why we were so distracted and dysregulated

yes, it’s not e-ink, but it absolutely is paper-like

A lot of my posts revolve around the @daylightco, so here’s why this screen is such a big deal. It’s… 📝 paperlike, reflective, non-emissive 🔵 blue light free 💡 flicker-free (so WAY calmer for your brain) ⏩ super-smooth-scrolling (60-120 fps) 🌞 sunlight readable 🌚 circadian friendly, thanks to the 🎃 amazing amber backlight (soo vibey and easy on the eyes) ✍️ actually great texture for handwriting Once I experienced what a paperlike computer feels like, it’s impossible to just go back and pretend it’s fine that we’re looking at flickering blue-light rectangles for most of our waking lives. Of course you can argue about the details: worse contrast than eink and the resolution is meh, etc. But at the end of the day, this is V1 of the screen that I want for everything: 27-32 inch for my desktop, a phone, a 13-15 inch to mount onto my Mac, etc. It’s the starting point for truly human-friendly computing. It’s what I want for my loved ones, my children, and all of you.

Unironically the most important tech development for health and well-being in and for our lifetimes. Excited for the future here.

Aesthetics are good again. It was touch and go for the past 50 years, but a world where things don’t look terrible is suddenly within our grasp.

I am once again reminding you that getting artificial dopamine hits inside non-stop all day is frying your chimp brain more than you dare to imagine. They can literally cook your entire life. Heck, in general, if you are depressed, unmotivated, lazy, and even don’t enjoy life much immediately cut out all artificial dopamine hits and go outside. You might laugh at this initially but give it 3 weeks and you will never look at social media the same. It’s basic science. D2 receptors, for example, are susceptible to downregulation from overstimulation, artificial blue light is shown to lead to a 30% reduction of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the substantia nigra in many animal models etc. So you can not live an overstimulating life indoors and wonder why you don’t derive pleasure from anything natural or why you're not driven to create something.

Although you’re extremely attractive and I’d love to have sex I don’t think we’re soulmates and it would thus be irresponsible for me to entangle our spirits. Hope you understand

I made a personal black hole that makes you take breaks 🕳️ A shader for Ghostty that spawns a small black hole in your terminal - it drifts around, gravitationally lensing your text. The longer you work without stopping, the bigger it gets, until it's basically demanding you go touch grass Take a break and it quietly shrinks away

I’m so sick and tired of losing the game of my own attention to algorithms and cheap dopamine So now I’m rebuilding my digital environment from the ground up and I won’t stop until human-friendly computing is accessible to every single one of you The future of computing is amber
