New post from me about Supermarket YIMBYism. The important but forgotten recommendation of the Commerce Commission. It’s time for a NPS-SD – National Policy Statement on Supermarket Development. 🧵

Great convo b/t @JerusalemDemsas & @_westerlywinds on arc of New Zealand land-use reform. tl,dr: Nationwide upzoning of transit corridors proved durable, but 3-story triplexes in SFH areas triggered backlash -- led by libertarian party (?!). 1/2

Another great episode this week from @JerusalemDemsas on Good on Paper, learning from New Zealand's response to housing crisis. This is one of the best podcasts around IMO - only been going 6 months, but consistently great interviews on important, interesting topics theatlantic.com/podcasts/goo…

Great podcast from @JerusalemDemsas and Eleanor West talking about the New Zealand housing reforms. Interesting to hear more about the climate action group getting younger people on board with upzoning for a compact city.

Christchurch's IHP has released their recommendation report to the council for PC14 to update the district plan according to NPS-UD and MDRS. From our quick read over the 500 odd pages there are both positives and negatives for those who want more houses to be allowed in our city

What is wrong with these independent hearings panels? They were set up as govt was worried councils would be too anti-housing. Yet in Welly, Tauranga and now Christchurch the IHP has been more anti-housing than the council.
