The whole "the sons of Ulster fought for the Confederacy" thing is really historically illiterate. Yes, there were some Scotch-Irish Confederates, but the areas densely settled by Scotch-Irish were full of stubborn unionist (different union) patriots, just like Northern Ireland.

West Virginia famously broke away from the Confederacy, there were unionist movements in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Whole military operations were conducted by the Confederates against the stubborn, unionist, Scotch-Irish.
