How do pundits go about guessing what most Americans are like? The most common approach has two steps. First, imagine someone very stupid. Second, imagine their cultural preferences are the opposite of a liberal's. That's it.

DMFI/AIPAC was, of course, fully in support of the war from the start, just as they opposed the JCPOA that could’ve prevented it. Completely out of step with the vast majority of Democrats.

The ceasefire agreement with Iran with the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is welcome news. Democrats should support it. I am glad it includes a provision for mutual respect of the US & Iran's sovereignty so we do not launch a dumb war of choice again.
The war was a costly lesson for the US. As expected, Trump failed to bring about regime change. The terms seem no better than what Obama secured under the JCPOA nearly a decade ago. America lost 14 precious service members and wasted billions of dollars on this foolish endeavor.
But today, we can be relieved that gas and food costs will start coming down for Americans. And that no more American or civilian lives will be lost.
It also shows that when the Congress votes to end war --as we did last week -- it can be a wake up call for the President to listen to the anti-war sentiments of the American people.

Interesting but the analysis points (especially given the citation timing) not just to the rise of a methodology but also to the opportunistic search by judges for historical results they like, taking advantage of the prestige of the scholar to divert from this opportunism.
Gordon Wood, who died last week at 92, became a go-to source for Supreme Court justices for his 1969 book “Creation of the American Republic.” His rise in SCOTUS advocacy was tied to rise of originalism—though Wood himself was not strictly an originalist.

In order to persuade Trump to launch this reckless war, its advocates needed to dangle the possibility of a diplomatic agreement. Now that a deal may be in reach, their real position comes back out: No deal is possible with the Iranian regime. Hopefully now the game finally ends.

Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.
We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.
With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony.

I read this once, twice, three times. Has anyone informed Rob that Israel has occupied Lebanese territory since 2024, therefore Hezbollah isn’t really in need of the Shebaa Farms excuse anymore. There are plenty of other “planks” to choose from, and Israel has made it possible.

Major development: A claim by #Damascus that Shebaa Farms is really #Syrian territory -- and therefore an agenda item to be resolved between #Israel and #Syria -- would undermine a key plank of #Hezbollah's "resistance" argument that it is defending #Lebanese territory from #Israeli occupation.
This is the sort of tangible contribution #Syria can make to #MiddleEast peacemaking, not sending troops into Lebanon to ignite sectarian tensions and give Hezbollah a new lease on life.
