John Podhoretz LOSES IT over Trump botching the Iran War: "I honestly don't know if this could be worse!" "[TRUMP] HAS CHOKED! HE HAS CHICKENED OUT!" "I'm out of my mind here!" The Israel Lobby has buyer's remorse on Trump. 🥶

Just in case Elizabeth gets flack for using the k-word: It is a fair and accurate translation of the Hebrew word (יהודונים) that Yinon uses to describe Witkoff and Kushner in his post. Hopefully someone informs them of it.
Just so you understand the level of derangement of the Bibi Cult, this Channel 14 host, who is close to Netanyahu calls VP Vance "scum" and Kushner and Witkoff "two kikes bought off by Qatar" for the MOU with Iran. Who is not to blame for this whole situation? Netanyahu.

Bassem Youssef: Israel is the only trans country in the world. They play the victim and the oppressor at the same time. They shift all the time. They oppress you and then it’s like ‘oh my god we were victimized! the Holocaust!” Way to throw trans people under the bus, asshole

How do pundits go about guessing what most Americans are like? The most common approach has two steps. First, imagine someone very stupid. Second, imagine their cultural preferences are the opposite of a liberal's. That's it. This is not a very reliable heuristic, it turns out.
Most of those bemoaning what Trump is doing to the “people’s house” are elites who have utter contempt for the “people” (who love motocross and UFC). If you’re going to sniff your nose at the proletariat don’t invoke the sanctity of the “people’s house” - you look ridiculous

Adriano Espaillat primaried a senior member of the Congressional Black Caucus—twice? Surely this is not so. He waited his turn.
In the summer of 2014, Adriano Espaillat was locked in his second, ill-fated primary battle against Rep. Charlie Rangel. That same summer, 20 yo Darializa Avila Chevalier was in Palestine, and her entire worldview was being turned upside down. cityandstateny.com/personali…

DMFI/AIPAC was, of course, fully in support of the war from the start, just as they opposed the JCPOA that could’ve prevented it. Completely out of step with the vast majority of Democrats.
Democratic Majority for Israel: "There are concerning details about what is and isn’t in this deal. President Trump should bring in serious and experienced negotiators and technical experts to get this deal over the finish line, rather than relying on friends, family, and donors."

The ceasefire agreement with Iran with the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is welcome news. Democrats should support it. I am glad it includes a provision for mutual respect of the US & Iran's sovereignty so we do not launch a dumb war of choice again. The war was a costly lesson for the US. As expected, Trump failed to bring about regime change. The terms seem no better than what Obama secured under the JCPOA nearly a decade ago. America lost 14 precious service members and wasted billions of dollars on this foolish endeavor. But today, we can be relieved that gas and food costs will start coming down for Americans. And that no more American or civilian lives will be lost. It also shows that when the Congress votes to end war --as we did last week -- it can be a wake up call for the President to listen to the anti-war sentiments of the American people.

Interesting but the analysis points (especially given the citation timing) not just to the rise of a methodology but also to the opportunistic search by judges for historical results they like, taking advantage of the prestige of the scholar to divert from this opportunism.
Gordon Wood, who died last week at 92, became a go-to source for Supreme Court justices for his 1969 book “Creation of the American Republic.” His rise in SCOTUS advocacy was tied to rise of originalism—though Wood himself was not strictly an originalist. wapo.st/4vLCqcx

At this point, one can't be betrayed by Donald Trump. Everyone knows the risks of hitching their wagons to him.
US President Donald Trump says he "never cared about regime change" in Iran. "This is third group we’ve dealt with… most rational group yet," he told the Wall Street Journal. iranintl.com/en/202606141396

In order to persuade Trump to launch this reckless war, its advocates needed to dangle the possibility of a diplomatic agreement. Now that a deal may be in reach, their real position comes back out: No deal is possible with the Iranian regime. Hopefully now the game finally ends.

Antonio Reynoso is a New Kings Democrats guy. He came up through the reform clubs. Running like this and leaning on the Post is the county party's playbook, and he's spent his career opposing them. But desperation leads one to places.
Ryenoso is now using attacks from the New York Post against Claire in his anti-Claire mailers. He is backed by a number of shady individuals in NYC. Having someone like him represent the most left-wing district in the country would be a disaster. His voting record would be even worse than Velazquez’s.

Whatever the deal turns out to be, it won’t be worth the price of the war. Whatever the deal turns out to be, it will be better than continuing the war.
Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland. We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard. With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony. @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

I urge my fellow New Yorkers to show grace as our haters flail and cope. Adding "NBA champions" to the list of things we have the best and most of in the greatest city in the world must be very frustrating for them

parallel with the Knicks' extraordinary penchant for magically rallying, coming-up-from-behind to triumph at virtually the last minute was the weirdly fascinating drama of "Wemby" on the court distinctive not only by his height but the thinness of his body which appeared, beside his teammates, almost pre-pubescent, lacking maturity. no matter where you looked, there was always "Wemby" charging about anticipating an opening to shove, push someone with a solid adult body with a baby-faced look of insouciance: "Who? Me? I' m just a kid."
From @TheAthletic: Victor Wembanyama’s first NBA finals experience was tough and emotional. He left the court without shaking Knicks players’ hands after the Spurs lost. “It’s painful. But I’m not running away from that,” he said. nyti.ms/4xAgpiP

I read this once, twice, three times. Has anyone informed Rob that Israel has occupied Lebanese territory since 2024, therefore Hezbollah isn’t really in need of the Shebaa Farms excuse anymore. There are plenty of other “planks” to choose from, and Israel has made it possible.
Major development: A claim by #Damascus that Shebaa Farms is really #Syrian territory -- and therefore an agenda item to be resolved between #Israel and #Syria -- would undermine a key plank of #Hezbollah's "resistance" argument that it is defending #Lebanese territory from #Israeli occupation. This is the sort of tangible contribution #Syria can make to #MiddleEast peacemaking, not sending troops into Lebanon to ignite sectarian tensions and give Hezbollah a new lease on life.
