⚖️ THE HAGUE IS ON HOLD
So let me get this straight.
The President of the United States posts—publicly, in caps, on a Monday morning—that if Iran doesn’t open the Strait of Hormuz, he will “completely obliterate” their electric grid, oil wells, Kharg Island, and “possibly” their desalination plants.
That’s not a tweet. That’s a war crimes indictment in draft form.
Collective punishment. Starvation. Environmental devastation. The kind of thing that, if you or I suggested it at a dinner party, would get us visited by men in dark suits.
But he does this three to four times a week. Before breakfast. And the world just… scrolls.
📜 “Completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly desalinization plants!) which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched.’”
He put “touched” in quotation marks. As if bombing a country’s water supply is a light tap on the shoulder.
“This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year ‘Reign of Terror.’”
He put “Reign of Terror” in quotation marks too. Because irony is dead, and we killed it.
🏛️ Now, here’s what you need to understand about the architecture of this moment.
The man is not a rogue actor. He is the feature. The culmination of a system that has normalized the unthinkable so thoroughly that a threat to obliterate a nation’s drinking water is met with a collective shrug and a “what’s on Netflix?”
The Hague was built for this. Nuremberg was written for this. Collective punishment? War crime. Targeting civilian infrastructure? War crime. Threatening mass starvation as a negotiating tactic? War crime squared.
But the Hague doesn’t answer the phone when the calls are coming from the White House. It never has.
😶 The dark humor is this:
We have a man who could be indicted by the International Criminal Court before lunch, and instead of a trial, we get a Truth Social post. Instead of handcuffs, we get “possibly desalinization plants!” with an exclamation point.
The same man, three years ago, was impeached for asking a foreign leader to investigate a political rival. Now he threatens to delete a country’s water supply, and the same institutions yawn.
The Hague is a museum piece. Nuremberg is a history lecture. The only law that applies anymore is the law of “who’s holding the button.”
🛢️ He’s threatening Iran with obliteration while simultaneously claiming he wants a deal.
Open the Strait, or we delete your ability to drink water.
That’s not diplomacy. That’s a protection racket. “Nice desalinization plant you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it.”
And the media will cover this as “Trump issues warning to Iran.” Not “President threatens war crime.” Not “White House signals collective punishment.” Just… a warning. Like a weather advisory.
Anyway. That’s just what I saw.
I could be wrong.
I’m not. 🫡
