Compare this thread from a parent of a 17-month-old with the rosy thread of @ashishkjha yesterday. Many parents are unable to locate vaccines, made even tougher if their ped has decided not to order them or the state hasn't made it a priority.

New Jersey has finally updated their site for the <5 vaccine 👏. Still limited options, and many of the search results are private practices that only take current patients OR county sites that only allow county residents. But it’s a start!

Bingo. @WHCOVIDResponse @ashishkjha. You can’t fix a problem if you don’t acknowledge it exists.

The most troubling thing about this is that @WHCOVIDResponse has decided to pretend the kids’ vaccination rollout is going great, rather than try to improve any of it.

Good thread that explains a lot. But parents’ frustration comes from two facts: (1) a lack of trust because the <5 vaccine process has been fraught with unexplained delays (2) unrealistic expectations set by the Biden admin who told us to expect shots in arms this week.
With vaccines for kids under 5 rolling out across the nation A lot of folks are asking me When can I get my kiddo vaccinated? Soon! Very soon Here’s what to expect Thread

This is my experience as well. I spent all day trying to schedule an appointment for my toddler with NO success, only to be told “call back next week” by my pediatrician, the state health department, and one of the state’s largest hospital systems. #ImmunizeUnder5s @WhiteHouse

Hey @GovMurphy - on your recommendation, I thought I’d hop on covidvaccine.nj.gov & find an appointment for my toddler. Oops - looks like NJ forgot to update their website. So I called @NJDeptofHealth and @MorrisCountyNJ who had no suggestions beyond“call back next week.”

Same here @NJDeptofHealth @MorrisCountyNJ @GovMurphy Please update parents on how we can schedule Covid vaccines for our kids <5, especially considering pharmacies cannot vaccinate children under 3 years old.

Pro-vaccine parents of kids under 5, your long wait is almost over. @US_FDA's advisory committee, #VRBPAC, meets today to start a 4-step, 4-day process that will clear 2 Covid vaccines for use in small children. @matthewherper & I are live-blogging here: statnews.com/2022/06/15/trac…

I don't have words for this horror. I am so angry we live in a country that sacrifices our children on the altar of the second amendment, over and over again.

I should be happy, but I’m disgusted. My rage is quivering. All I’ve wanted is protect my babies. I can’t help but feel like they’re pawns in some game the FDA is playing. If @FDACBER @FDASpox @DrCaliff_FDA was hoping to make parents feel more confident, you have utterly failed.

@ashishkjha makes a well articulated argument for #COVID19 #vaccination in kids. Less severe disease, less MIS-C, etc. Under 5s deserve the same level of protection. The world won’t get back to normal until we #ImmunizeUnder5 @US_FDA The data is on your desk. Review it!

Vaccines dramatically lower risk of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children And the risks of these vaccines in 5-11 years are trivial Way less than risks from the complications of COVID So what about a 3rd dose? Evidence for Omicron is clear: a 3rd dose helps. A lot.

I urge the FDA to approve an ACIP to review Moderna’s application this Thursday to give parents peace of mind and cut red tape to help families safely visit their relatives or enjoy summer activities with peace of mind.

Could you publicly explain the unprecedented delays in reviewing the Moderna data for u5s? Or at the very least why #offlabel use is till prohibited in this age group? We need immediate protection and to #ImmunizeUnder5s now.

The off-label ban is on @RWalensky at CDC. Kids are dying for lack of vaccines as FDA and CDC blame each other. We urgently need leadership from @SecBecerra and @POTUS @WHCOVIDResponse because what matters most now is the urgent need to protect kids in this surge.
