Imagine losing friends over some stupid ass shit that doesn't even have anything to do with them, I guess they were never really friends if they were willing to so quickly ignore me for no fucking reason.

I hope y’all in LA area are safe. My daughter evacuated from the #Palisades yesterday around 11AM. She’d been living with her BFs lovely family (all safe!) while planning her next move. Her BF tried checking on the home today but it’s like a warzone. Their house is likely gone.

If I was watching a Guitar Hero or speedrun stream, there was always a good chance Tanner was also there. He's someone who I never personally met but was always so happy to see an update from. I'll never forget his dedication, especially to hitting 1 mil encounters in White 2

The shiny hunting community lost an actual old legend last month: TheXxTanmanxX. He was one of the most dedicated shiny hunters the world ever saw, and his enthusiasm for it never dwindling for 10 years was always so inspiring. Tribute by MrLetsPlayIt: youtu.be/jdrL3w322EQ?si=WrLb…

I genuinely hope this gets taken to court and that Nintendo loses the case, simply because I think it would set a very important precedent that companies like Nintendo shouldn't be allowed to intimidate or obstruct the development of other IPs based loosely on the similarity of game mechanics. Particularly broad and vague mechanics like "the ability to throw an item at an NPC in a virtual space to capture it" There's a thousand different kinds of toothpaste that have mint in it, but you don't see Crest filing lawsuits against Colgate for patent infringement. Absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, it should not be allowed, and for the most part isn't allowed in almost any other industry.

My assumption is that Nintendo is going after Pocket Pair for the Pal Sphere mechanic as it directly mirrors the Pokéball. Nintendo has a patent on file for this mechanic but the dates make it a bit interesting. The US patent was filed in May 2024 and approved in August 2024. The JP one appears to have been filed in December 2021 and was approved in November 2023. Palworld was announced publicly on June 2021 and launched in January 2024. From this basis it appears that Nintendo saw a threat and tried to shore up with patents in case Palworld did well. Overall I feel that patenting mechanics in this way limits games and gives us worse games overall. We should be copyrighting characters, art, music, and other content. Patenting mechanics sucks for everyone. Patents aren't my forte but this definitely seems in the realm of possibility. Waiting to see how this all plays out and if my assumption is even correct. Regarding the Lawsuit Yesterday, a lawsuit was filed against our company for patent infringement. We have received notice of this lawsuit and will begin the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement. At this moment, we are unaware of the specific patents we are accused of infringing upon, and we have not been notified of such details. Pocketpair is a small indie game company based in Tokyo. Our goal as a company has always been to create fun games. We will continue to pursue this goal because we know that our games bring joy to millions of gamers around the world. Palworld was a surprise success this year, both for gamers and for us. We were blown away by the amazing response to the game and have been working hard to make it even better for our fans. We will continue improving Palworld and strive to create a game that our fans can be proud of. It is truly unfortunate that we will be forced to allocate significant time to matters unrelated to game development due to this lawsuit. However, we will do our utmost for our fans, and to ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas. We apologize to our fans and supporters for any worry or discomfort that this news has caused. As always, thank you for your continued support of Palworld and Pocketpair. pocketpair.jp/news/news16

It's been almost a year since the giant explosion that took our stream from ~400 average viewers to above 10,000. In the beginning of this I formed a corporation and hired our moderation team and editors on full-time. At the time people claimed we would be bankrupt within 6 months or that mods shouldn't be paid. Yet you, all of you, supported us and what we were doing. Together, you never stopped doing so. Today we have 12 moderators, 2 editors, and 2 caretakers for the ferret rescue. Everyone is on full-time with benefits or is a contractor that receives equivalent pay to those benefits. We don't decrease payment for people in other countries so everyone is paid equally within a role regardless of their location. We couldn't do this without you. Literally. Thank you everyone. 💜💛
