Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" is amazing. Even performed by professional classical musicians and a string quartet, it still sounds like rock. It feels like a musical performance. This is normally impossible! I'll play it next time. Let's go to Fukuyama. This arrangement is excellent.

My husband wrote this when my son was going away to college. Though he left his faith for the next several years, his reversion was profound and he is now deeply engaged in the Denver Catholic young adult scene! Praise God! Love Letter magazine.nd.edu/stories/love…

A great woman erased from history by idiots. Nancy Green was born a slave in 1834 but rose to become the first living trademark in America, known as “Aunt Jemima.” At the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, her kindness, humor, and showmanship made her an instant star as she served pancakes to thousands. She went on to earn wealth, travel the country, and use her platform to fight poverty and stand for equal rights. She died in 1923 at age 89, leaving behind a story of strength and success that should never be forgotten.

Reposting this quote from @JeremyTate41 because it's worthy of repeating: "Classical literature is not just harder content. It is liberation. It rips students out of the tiny prison of their own age, their own trends, their own slogans, their own shallow assumptions about what matters. It reminds them the world did not begin with them, and that their feelings are not the measure of truth. Shakespeare doesn’t teach “skills.” He reveals ambition, lust, betrayal, guilt, and the cost of sin. Homer teaches courage and honor. Augustine exposes the restless heart. Dante shows that loves can be ordered rightly or twisted into ruin. These books give students a map of the soul. The real enemy isn’t Crime and Punishment. The real enemy is a culture training kids to be bored by silence and incapable of deep thought.""

Notre Dame students pray the Alma Mater, thanking the BVM for her care and intercession in the wake of the Ostermann reversal. The event was originally planned as a protest, but after the abortion advocate declined the appt, student organizers shifted their focus to gratitude.

“I was grateful to receive the news that Professor Susan Ostermann has declined the appointment to serve as the Director of the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies at the University of Notre Dame. I am very grateful to all the members of the Notre Dame community and beyond who, out of love for Notre Dame, expressed their opposition to the appointment.    The reason I opposed the appointment is because the appointment of persons to leadership positions at a Catholic university is an act of institutional witness, a mission-governance issue. Recently, in a public statement, a Notre Dame spokesperson said that, “Notre Dame’s commitment to upholding the inherent dignity of the human person and the sanctity of life at every stage is unwavering.” Clearly Notre Dame is reaffirming its fidelity to a core truth of Catholic social teaching that is central to the Church’s commitment to integral human development. I see Notre Dame living out this commitment through its many classes, activities, and programs which promote human life and dignity. That mission commitment is compromised when a Catholic university appoints leaders or bestows honors on those who act or speak against fundamental teachings of the Church. This is not an issue about academic freedom or scholarly engagement. Academic freedom protects inquiry. It does not require institutional self-contradiction.” Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades

.@realtomhoman tells @perdiexamerica that he'd "be happy to sit down and explain" to Pope Leo XIV what he's missing in his critiques of Trump's deportations "I'm a lifelong Catholic, still a practicing Catholic. Catholic faith is always in support of law enforcement, always has been, and he should be, too. I've said it many times before. You ought to be fixing the Catholic Church, 'cause they've got their own issues. But the bottom line is, if we jumped the wall at the Vatican, the penalties for doing that are much harder than the ones here in the United States, entering the country illegally. So, look, what he doesn't understand is there's a flip side to illegal immigration. 31% of women get r*ped making that journey. Over 4,000 aliens died making that journey under Joe Biden. A quarter million Americans died of fentanyl because of the open border. When you overwhelm the border patrol, all the bad things happen. Sex trafficking increases, fentanyl increases. Securing the border saves lives. And I'd be happy to sit down and explain it to him, that illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. So President Trump having illegal immigration down 96%, he's saving thousands of lives every year."

“It was a blessing to pray the Rosary this evening with students at the University of Notre Dame at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, following Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. I am grateful for Notre Dame's pro-life witness reflected in the students and faculty who work to foster a culture of life through their organizations, programs, and daily example. I entrust the Notre Dame community and its leaders to the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes. I invite all the faithful to join in prayer - perhaps by lighting a candle at the Grotto - asking our Blessed Mother to intercede for Notre Dame and its proclamation and service of the Gospel of her Son, the Gospel of life.” —Most Reverend Kevin C. America just won hockey gold for the first time in 46 years. Miracle on Ice. We beat the USSR. Back when we were still proud to be Americans. For the first time in 25 years, starting to see that again. Canada was favored. Didn't matter. You just have to refuse to lose. Jack Hughes took a stick to the face in the third period. Looked down at his teeth on the ice. Mouth full of blood. Didn't go to the locker room. Didn't flinch. 101 seconds into overtime, he buried the golden goal. Toothless, bleeding, and smiling. His brother Quinn won the quarterfinal in OT. Their mother Ellen coached the women's team to gold. A Jewish-American hockey family. Three gold medal moments in one Olympics. This team lost Johnny Gaudreau to a drunk driver in 2024. So when they won, they grabbed the American flag. They held up Johnny's jersey. They brought his kids onto the ice for the team photo. No politics. No statements. Just Americans wearing the flag with pride and playing for something bigger than themselves. A 24-year-old kid with blood running down his chin wrapped himself in the stars and stripes and said "I'm so proud to be American." When's the last time you heard someone say that and mean it? And it's not just on the ice. Military enlistment hit a 15-year high. Every branch exceeded its goals for the first time in years. Today, same day we won gold, El Mencho, head of Mexico's most powerful fentanyl cartel, was killed. Overdose deaths down 19%. We pulled Maduro out of Venezuela. Iran is at the table. Your kids are going to ask you about this time. About when the pride came back. About when Americans stopped apologizing for being American. Tell them it started with a toothless kid in Milan who bled for the flag and smiled. Tim Walz would've told him to take a knee. Then let a billion dollars in fraud walk out the back door.

I was impressed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio's speech at the Munich Security Conference. He indeed addressed a number of particular political issues, but what most grabbed my attention was his stress on the common culture that unites Europe and America. He cited Dante, Shakespeare, the Sistine Chapel, Cologne Cathedral—even the Beatles as expressions of basic cultural intuitions that still inform the West. But he pressed the matter further, insisting, in the spirit of both Christopher Dawson and Pope Benedict XVI, that that culture is grounded ultimately in the Christian faith. It is simply the case that reverence for the dignity of the individual, for human rights, for political freedom, and for equality comes, in the final analysis, from the Christian Gospel. Basic to his presentation was the conviction that Europe and America will truly flourish when each re-discovers its spiritual mooring.

I want to express my strong support for the statement that Bishop Kevin Rhoades made this morning concerning a controversial appointment at the University of Notre Dame. Please read his communication in full, for he makes the case more completely and eloquently than I could. Suffice it to say that the woman proposed for a key leadership position at Our Lady’s University is not simply “pro-choice” on the question of abortion; she is a sharp critic of the pro-life position and those who advocate it. She has gone so far as to characterize the anti-abortion stance as rooted in white supremacy and racism, and she has insinuated that the Catholic commitment to integral human development implies the support of abortion rights. Like Bishop Rhoades, I speak as someone with strong connections to and deep affection for the University of Notre Dame. I believe that going ahead with this appointment is repugnant to the identity and mission of that great center of Catholic learning.   diocesefwsb.org/statement-of…

These are the most obscene lyrics ever to be performed at a Super Bowl half time. And you have professing Christians in the Kentucky senate and at America’s most recognized evangelical magazine saying Christians should have embraced and celebrated this to show love and to show that we are welcoming. Also, the kids would get a “kick” out of hearing this Spanish.
