The University of Michigan put their entire robotics degree on GitHub. Not one course. The whole curriculum. ROB 101 โ€” Computational Linear Algebra for Robotics ROB 311 โ€” How to Build Robots and Make Them Move ROB 501 โ€” Mathematics for Robotics ROB 530 โ€” Mobile Robotics Every lecture video on YouTube. Every textbook on GitHub. Every problem set, every exam, every line of code. Professor Jessy Grizzle said it best when they launched it: "Linear algebra has become the language of computer vision, machine learning, robotics, and autonomy." So instead of making students wait four semesters of calculus before touching a robot... they built a curriculum that starts with the math that actually matters, applied to real robotics problems from day one. This is what open education looks like when a top-10 engineering school decides to mean it. Free. GitHub. A heartbroken elderly Albanian man says Jared Kushner has taken everything he spent a lifetime building, including his land, his home, and the future he hoped to leave behind for his children. He says he returned home one day only to find his property sealed off behind barbed wire, with men in black uniforms standing guard and refusing to let him step inside the house he once called his own. In a single moment, he says, the life he had worked for was gone. โ€œIt was the end of the world. The end of the world.โ€ โ€œI felt imprisoned.โ€ โ€œThey took my freedom.โ€ โ€œThey took my livelihood.โ€ โ€œThey took my land.โ€

At least for me, the US/Iran War has made it very clear which "experts", politicians, and social media personalities cannot be trusted under any circumstances to objectively assess reality. Ideological extremists, administration propagandists, and people desperate to stay relevant. Remember who told the truth, who objectively analyzed events, and who can be trusted in the future.

Rammed earth "art" in Yokohama's Minato Mirai Grand Mall area. Leaving the nonsensical "artiness" aside, it is interesting from the aspect of physical materials. Rammed earth using different soils for different layers (normally you'd use the best possible local soil to achieve even strength and durability). These were made in 2015 and after 11 years of wind rain typhoons and the usual subtropical extreme humidity it seems to have held up well enough with zero maintenance. There's some biological surface reactions as well as weaker layers losing more material than is should have (the effect of mixing layers of different materials) and what looks like mechanical damage to the corners. The white granite tops come without any overhang or dripline so they also likely accelerate deterioration. If used to build homes or more useful structures I'd probably put on a proper roof and if possible some sort of cladding. Still, it holds up really well, proving once again that rammed earth works in any climates.

Gemini had an especially bad series of errors after giving me a forking path to pick one of two contradicting responses. Which led to a fairly good summary about why LLMs were always meant to be math and coding tools and not search engines or AI assistants. Should be a disclaimer

On June 2 the White House issued an order designed to put the government first in line for the most powerful AI ever built. It sets up a classified benchmarking process, run by the Treasury, Homeland Security, and the War Department through the NSA, to test frontier models for their cyber capabilities and decide which ones cross into a tier the order calls "covered." It effectively requires the companies building those models to hand them over for 30 days before public release, so the state can study them behind a classified door before anyone outside it gets to touch them. Which models cross into that tier gets decided by a single person, the Director of the NSA, under criteria that stay classified. Treasury, Homeland Security, and the War Department help build the test and sit in the room when it runs. None of them can overrule him. The line between a model that is yours and a model the state holds first gets drawn by the head of the country's largest surveillance agency, by a standard no one outside the building is allowed to read. The NSA is the agency built to break into systems and read what crosses them. Give it a frontier model for a month, alone, with the specific task of charting what that model can do to a network, and you have handed the offensive arm of the state a private demonstration of its next tool. Government review before release is not new. Since 2024 the major labs have given a civilian safety office inside the Commerce Department an early look at their unreleased models. It ran its tests close to the open and published what it found, and by this spring Google, Microsoft, and xAI had joined the others inside it, more than 40 evaluations deep. The June 2 order builds its own version of that review and routes it somewhere darker. The early look now runs through the NSA. The standard that decides what qualifies is now classified. One man makes the call, and the findings are sealed. The printing press, the rifle, the radio, the home computer. Each one reached the public, and the public decided what it was for. The most powerful instrument ever built reaches the NSA first now, by a measure no one outside the agency is allowed to read, and it reaches you second, in whatever condition the early look has left it. The state simply arrives ahead of you and stays there. That should concern any person who cares about liberty.

There is no rise in anti-semitism. There is a rise in the number of people who are very angry at what Israel is doing. Your inability to separate the two is problematic.

Looks as if someone is sensitive about the fact that the new Iran deal isn't as good as JCPOA (or as good as what was offered by Iran in January, before we spent tens of billions of dollars to create a global mess).
Senator Jack Reed, a Dumocrat from R.I., lied when stating the the Deal we just made is not as good as the Obama disaster known as the JCPOA. Reed is either an outright fraud, or incompetent. The Obuma Deal was a road to a Nuclear weapon for Iran, cash and all, one of the worst and dumbest (hence Dumocrats!) Deals ever made by the U.S. Our Deal is a WALL against Iran ever having a Nuclear weapon, the complete opposite of Obuma. Impeach Jack Reed! Dr. Aldrich's CIA team/ORD used brain implants to remotely control animals & considered them viable for humans. They researched gene splintering, tested psychosurgery on prisoners to reduce memory recall w/ the goal of creating programmable supersoldiers & a subservient society.
The Cleveland Clinic carried out monkey head transplants to show that a brain could survive & function in a new body. The transplanted heads remained conscious, able to see, eat & express emotions. These experiments aimed to transplant brains into healthy bodies in the future.

They should have kept the model up and become a mascot of liberty and defiance against an oppressive, unconstitutional regime that wants to siphon all American innovation by making a public-private shadownet controlled by a handful of billionaires. Would have for Biden/Harris.
The following seems undisputed: - Senior USG officials called Dario Amodei, asked him to roll back Fable 5. - Amodei responded only that he wants more time and more information. Presumably, he was asked again in no uncertain terms to pull the model. Presumably, he said "no". - Bessent then "told Amodei directly that he was making a 'bad decision'". - At this point, the call that seems to have been intended as a difficult conversation between partners clearly turned adversarial. Amodei still didn't change his mind and still didn't agree to pull Fable 5. The key takeaway is that whatever trust the USG still had in Anthropic generally and Amodei specifically before this incident should have now completely evaporated. No matter the circumstances, you cannot, as a government official, tolerate a company that flatly tells you "no" after you informally contact it with a national security concern. I remain hopeful that this situation can still be deescalated, but fear that this might be a pivotal moment for Anthropic.
