“As we continue fighting for health and hygiene, there is one issue we must no longer ignore menstrual pain.”#MHMDay2026 Those powerful remarks during the 2026 International Menstrual Health & Hygiene Day National Conference at the @UNICEFUganda Innovation Centre highlighted a silent reality affecting thousands of girls across Uganda. Menstrual pain is real. For many learners, it affects concentration, attendance, confidence, and overall wellbeing. In some communities, misinformation has dangerously convinced young girls that early sexual activity can stop menstrual pain a harmful myth that must be challenged through accurate health education and open conversations. The discussions today reminded us that menstrual health goes beyond pads and sanitation facilities. It includes access to healthcare, psychosocial support, accurate information, and safe spaces where girls can speak openly without fear or shame. A truly #PeriodFriendlyWorld is one where no girl misses school, suffers in silence, or is pushed toward harmful choices because of unmanaged menstrual health challenges. #MHHDay2026 #EndPeriodStigma
