Something about Jalen Brunson: He went to the same high school I did in the suburbs of Chicago. He founded an academy at the high school & every year, he’d come back and train middle school basketball players, no matter how big he got. That’s true character & a real role model.

ICE took a 31 y/o Haitian asylum-seeker into custody, drove her 30 miles away to a Pittsburgh office, put an ankle monitor on her, then sent her out the front door with no way to get anywhere or contact her family. She froze to death at a bus stop. It's now ruled a homicide.

“The difficulty of democracy is that it demands a readiness for compromise. The beaten party must not consider that a principle is involved of such importance as to make it pusillanimous to yield; on the other hand, the majority must not press the advantage to the point at which it provokes a revolt. This requires practice, respect for the law, and the habit of believing that opinions other than one's own may not be a proof of wickedness. What is even more necessary, there must not be a state of acute fear, for, when there is such a state, men look for a leader and submit to him when found, with the result that he probably becomes a dictator. Given these conditions, democracy is capable of being the most stable form of government hitherto devised.” – Bertrand Russell

The humanitarian crisis that we’re seeing in Sudan has killed 400,000 civilians, displaced 14 million people, and caused a catastrophic level of hunger. The U.S. has the power to end this proxy war in Sudan, and must act to do so.

The DOJ is asking a federal court to let it defend an Ohio law that voting rights advocates say will disenfranchise thousands of eligible citizens from voting. When Kansas passed a similar law, 12% of voters in the state who were trying to register for the first time were blocked from doing so. bit.ly/3S5WEzg

A grand juror in the Broadview Six case called the prosecution "a crock of shit." The judge reviewed the transcripts, found improper conduct, and released them publicly. The government dropped the case. That judge is now overseeing a new DOJ investigation out of the same office. The prosecutors who were watching the Broadview Six implosion know she's watching them. That's the mechanism. That's how it works.
Judges have long defaulted to a posture of trust toward the federal government—but that's changing under Trump, Quinta Jurecic writes: theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…

The Germany comparison is real. The sharper argument is what's happening right now to 43 million Americans holding $1.7 trillion in federal student debt. The SAVE plan - the most affordable income-driven repayment option ever created - was struck down by the Eighth Circuit this spring. Seven million borrowers enrolled in it were told to exit within 90 days and find a different plan. Many still haven't received clear guidance on what their options are. The Education Department cut over 40 percent of its workforce. Treasury cut nearly a quarter of its staff. Now, beginning this July, the administration is transferring the entire $1.7 trillion student loan portfolio from Education to Treasury in phases - starting with 500,000 accounts in default. Treasury has never administered student loans. Student loans carry specific protections and forgiveness options that no other federal debt carries. The advocates who work this issue daily are calling the transfer "reckless" and "irresponsible." Democratic senators have called it an illegal scheme that violates the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026. Warren has demanded it be rescinded. Nearly one in four federal student loan borrowers is currently in default. Fewer than 40 percent are in active repayment. The administration's diagnosis: prior mismanagement. The treatment: move a program the receiving agency has never run, staffed by a department that just shed a quarter of its employees, while 7 million borrowers wait to find out what repayment plan they're supposed to be on. A payment pause while the government figures this out is not a radical ask. It's the minimum response to chaos the government created.
Germany, Norway, Finland: free college. USA: $1.7 trillion in student debt. These aren't different values. They're different choices. Urge lawmakers to pause payments while they sort out this mess by signing the petition below. actionnetwork.org/petitions/…

Trump demanded Congress expel a member for planning to use the constitutional power of impeachment. Raskin: "There's a very easy way to not get impeached. Stop committing impeachable offenses." He then listed the specific ones. By name. On live television. That's how you answer a 195-word Truth Social tirade.

Really powerful visit at the Trump-Epstein Reading Room in D.C. this week. Talking to survivors and seeing all the documents printed out reminds us what this fight is all about. We won’t stop advocating for the release of all the files and justice for survivors.

Darfur genocide survivor Niemat Ahmadi told lawmakers on Capitol Hill that after fleeing the atrocities in Darfur 25 years ago, she “never thought I would be sitting in front of you speaking about another genocide.” Ahmadi, alongside Darfur Women Action Group, called for urgent international action as U.S. ally UAE continues to sponsor genocide in Sudan. Rep McGovern in the post below discusses the NBA’s relationship with the UAE and complicity in the genocide. (🎥 Video via @RefugeesIntl)
🧵1/ The NBA should divest from the UAE until it ends support for the RSF in Sudan. Sudan is facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises: more than 11 million people displaced, widespread atrocities, and millions facing hunger and famine.

🚨 MIND-BLOWING HYPOCRISY JUST EXPOSED. Trump is out here popping champagne over a brand new Iran “deal”… …centered on Iran’s sacred promise that they will NEVER obtain a nuclear weapon. Sound familiar? Because ABC’s Jonathan Karl just dropped the bomb: That exact same promise was in the very first paragraph of Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal. Let that sink in. Obama makes the deal → Trump rips it up, slaps on “maximum pressure,” starts a war, costs lives and billions… …only to crawl back and celebrate the exact same core commitment like it’s some historic genius move. Same promise. Different body count. History is laughing. The cycle is complete. What a time to be alive. 🔥 Quote. Repost. Ratio.

I feel like the fact that Jalen's dad played for the Knicks in the finals against the Spurs back in 1999 when Jalen was just two years old is legitimately under-appreciated. What a dope NYC story.
