It was indeed a wonderful to be a panel member and organizing the panel
Day 3 of Supercomputing India 2025 featured a panel discussion on “Supercomputing and Operational Numerical Weather Prediction”, which explored the critical role of HPC in atmospheric science. The experts highlighted India’s progress with top-tier supercomputers for weather forecasting, advancements in global atmospheric models, and CSIR–4PI’s journey in climate modelling and simulation. They discussed regional climate change projections, extreme-event forecasting, and the 24×7 computational demands of modern prediction systems. The panel noted that today’s HPC blends CPU and GPU architectures, while the future points toward quantum-enabled forecasting. With growing data volumes from satellites and sensors, next-generation HPC will be essential for real-time climate intelligence. The session reinforced that precision forecasting is not just science but a pillar of national preparedness powered by computation. #SCI2025 #SupercomputingIndia #HPC #AI #QuantumComputing #NSM
