Update on Railways Bill: There was a major win on public ownership this week, but the government failed to take on ANY amendments for passenger and disability rights or public interest. Our full report is coming soon, before we take this fight to the House of Lords.

Our full support to @LevelBoarding with their strong intervention on the HS2 train fleet. It should be out of the question for govt to commission new train designs without level boarding. To do so is a form of discrimination because it creates new barriers to accessibility.
Today, the Campaign has published an open letter to @Heidi_Labour regarding the news that the HS2 train fleet contract is to be reviewed. The opportunity to apply 8 years of learning on accessibility since the trains were originally specified MUST be taken.

Took a philosophy class that covered assisted dying. One guy wanted to die because he couldn't afford his disability equipment so his life was shit and he had no independence. Apparently "why don't they just give him the equipment instead of killing him" was the wrong answer?????
abortion is fine but we should probably improve disability care so people feel comfortable having a child with down syndrome lol. crazy thought i know

The Oxford Street Development Corporation must commit to co-production, not just "tick box" engagement. I'll continue to call for this as the Economy Committee investigates the impact of the Oxford Street pedestrianisation.

Now imagine if you didn’t know your rights. You’d be stranded / turned away. This is why I keep banging my rage fuelled drum, right here 👇🏻
This! They've tried to refuse me tuag before because they didn't have staff to assist me. I told them I can get myself to the platform, and ask TM to board me. Got told I couldn't do that. I persisted, but I shouldn't have had to.

@networkrail disabled people have the EXPLICIT legal right to spontaneous travel - ‘Turn up & Go’ What’s this notice for please? This reads as though you think that you can decide whether to behave lawfully or not owing to staff availability? Cc @TransportCttee @railandroad
Replying to @nationalrailenq
@nationalrailenq "staff availability" would not be a legally valid excuse to refuse someone

No wonder there is a severe lack of #disabled suitable housing. We need local authorities to refuse planning permission for developments of 10 or more homes unless 30% are to #BuildingRegulations2010 M4(3) this also needs to be included in the #NationalPlanningPolicyFramework.

This is the pathetic response from @GWR when informed that a train manager has refused to enforce GWR's own policy on luggage in wheelchair spaces. I shouldn't have to fight to get basic dignity & protection for my mobility aid when travelling home from work.

Good evening Becca. I'm very sorry to hear that. Can you still access this chair easily? Please ask the customer with the bag to remove this when you require access to the chair. I'm very sorry to hear that this has happened. Please inform another member of staff if you require any assistance - Steve

I was unable to be admitted to hospital yesterday for cardiac treatment because no skilled carers were in place for the weekend . @wesstreeting @SKinnock can you urgently review how this package is being delivered & ensure the safe, skilled care funded for (CHC) is in place
23 years of care. A child with highly complex needs. A package that should be 24/7 skilled support. Instead: untrained staff, no continuity, no safety. This is what system failure looks like in real life. Thread 🧵
