In Jaipur — Chitrakoot Sector 2, Lane 3, 302021 — a mother dog who was still nursing her five puppies was picked up by Nagar Nigam and neutered. She was only returned after volunteers begged for her release. And now, even after all of that, she's been relocated again — pulled away from the little ones who still needed her. All five of her pups were moved too, scattered at different times. The people who relocated them refuse to share where they've gone. The mother searches. The volunteers search. They were familiar faces on the streets, senior dogs who had survived years of hardship, sterilized and vaccinated as per the law, and looked after by local residents who ensured they were safe and healthy. Today, many of them are gone. More than 15 community dogs in Alappuzha, Kerala, have reportedly died in what is being alleged as a mass poisoning incident. Notably, there were no reported bite incidents linked to these animals. So the questions cannot be ignored: 🟢Who decided these lives were disposable? 🟢Who supplied the poison? 🟢Who is responsible for this tragedy? 🟢why has there not been an immediate and transparent response? The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) SOP is being presented as "animal welfare," but how is forcing community dogs into confinement, removing them from their territories, and subjecting them to overcrowding, stress, disease, and neglect an act of welfare? A dog that has lived freely in its community cannot simply be treated as an object to be captured, confined, and forgotten. India already has a humane and scientifically recognized solution: ABC Rules, sterilization, vaccination, and responsible waste management. Instead of strengthening these measures, this SOP risks creating suffering on an unimaginable scale. Thousands of healthy community dogs could face lifelong confinement, inadequate care, starvation, disease, and psychological trauma in the name of management. We call upon @AwbiBallabhgarh @PMOIndia @narendramodi @moefcc to immediately withdraw this SOP and uphold the spirit of animal protection laws. Cruelty cannot be rebranded as welfare. Dear @MCD_Delhi @praveshwahi, an empty plot right behind our housing building in SDA has become a dumping yard (images attached). This plot shares a boundary with three buildings, and several open balconies (including ours) are exposed to it. Today, a snake was spotted there. We don’t know who owns this plot & why it has been allowed to get to this state in the middle of a residential area, but what we do know is such unchecked waste lying around is a hazard — from rats, cockroaches and mosquitoes to the more worrying risk of this growing mountain of paper waste catching FIRE. I have tried to bring it to the attention of authorities but no movement has happened so far. I would, therefore, request you to please look into this before something untoward happens.
