Ruth Davidson is right. Aberdeen South is on a knife-edge. Only Douglas Lumsden can beat the SNP. A vote for any other party risks handing the seat straight back to the Nationalists. If pro-UK voters unite behind Douglas, we can win. If the vote is split, the SNP wins. Every vote matters. Every vote counts. scotsman.com/news/politics/f…

One hell of a letter in The Times today from General Sir Nick Carter, a former head of the armed forces He warns that Britain risks becoming ‘Belgium with nuclear weapons’ unless it spends more on defence ‘Successive governments have hollowed our armed forces out to such a degree that if we do not spend what is needed now to arrest that decline, and transform them for the modern world, we risk becoming Belgium with nuclear weapons. And our enemies are watching’ Times letters: Britain’s slide down the Nato league table thetimes.com/article/5c37102…

There’s been an appalling rise in antisemitism throughout society and on all social media platforms since the ‘Free Palestine’ movements were formed to protest and campaign against Israel’s response to October 7 2023. It’s even rampant in Ivy League universities, where I don’t think Musk’s writ runs.
this is the difference that is made to my life. Before Musk took over X it was very rare for me to receive any antisemitic abuse on this platform. As a result of the people and accounts that he has encouraged and boosted it is now an everyday occurrence. 99% of this stuff will stay online. A tiny amount of it won't.

Every single person who still cringes at the memory of trying to bullshit their way through an interview or exam question: today, the slate is wiped clean. Set down your burden of shame. Nothing - nothing, I say - could touch this.

Nobody with a service background should be willing to endorse the grossly irresponsible Defence Investment Plan. My article in today’s Daily Telegraph.

John Healey, Captain Mainwaring of this doomed Westminster platoon, could no longer stand by while Britain’s defences were left with a broom handle and tin hat He picked up the field telephone, resigned, and reportedly left Keir Starmer spluttering in the Labour bunker {satire}

Former defence secretary John Hutton says John Healey was facing “an impossible dilemma” and had to resign. "I’m baffled by how we can find almost endless amounts of money for welfare projects...net zero and all sorts of other things." @Dannythefink

Proof of three things: 1) John Healey is not the shrinking violet some in the military feared 2) The government is in no way taking the current threats to the defence of the realm seriously 3) Starmer government is a sinking ship which can't get out of the docks on key issues

This is truly pathetic. Cut the welfare freeloaders, cut the ludicrous self harm of Net Zero. This Treasury now resembles the government of the 1930s
TREASURY source hits back to say Chancellor "will always do what is right and needed to keep this country safe... Let's be clear on what John is asking for: cuts to schools and hospitals."

What is remarkable about this letter its exposure of such sensitive government deliberations: that MoD’s financial settlement was only disclosed to him on Monday; the shocking degree to which the Treasury was trying to slow walk the increase required by NATO targets; and Starmer’s failure to match political froth about defence with meaningful spend

Labour's own people are telling you everything you need to know. Wes Streeting: Reeves has no plan for growth. Pat McFadden: all Labour want to do is tax more to pay more benefits. John Healey: Starmer won't fund our armed forces. Jess Phillips: PM only acted to protect women and girls when it needed to save his own skin over Mandelson. A government turning in on itself.

Given the subject matter and comparing it to the psychodrama that often governs cabinet resignations, Healey's decision to quit feels like the most consequential departure of the last 25 years

Labour maxed out on spending in their first two budgets. They promised to limit spending increases to £9.5 billion a year. But they increased it by £146 billion instead. That’s why they’re dithering on the Defence Investment Plan.

It’s really fascinating to see how many French politicians are completely delusional about other partners. 🇵🇱 Poland won’t join you. They mistrusted FCAS for good reasons. 🇸🇪 Sweden won’t join you. They clearly prefer a cooperation with Germany. 🇪🇸 Spain won’t join you. They also prefer a cooperation with Germany or GCAP. 🇮🇹 Italy won’t join you. They are sticking to GCAP and have a Eurofighter tradition. 🇬🇧 UK won’t join you. They are also sticking to GCAP. IF they will use extra resources, they prefer a cooperation with Germany due to Eurofighter heritage. 🇫🇷 Right now, France is completely isolated. It only can hope for countries outside Europe which contradicts “European strategic autonomy” in its core.
