It’s taken some effort, but I’ve finally found the event with fewer women than the average antitrust meeting - spring Little League 12U tryouts. The dads seem happy to let their wives bring their kids when they’re younger, but stuff gets real in middle school.

A bit or personal news: after 13 years at the FTC, today is my last day. I start work as an antitrust lawyer for Amazon on Monday. And we move to Seattle over the summer. Any Seattle advice is appreciated!

So excited to make this public. FTC ALJ found a microprocessor knee merger was illegal after our 31 day trial last year. Lots of discussion about the role of remedy and failing firm in the 261 page opinion. ftc.gov/news-events/press-re…

I’m furloughed but “essential” and my kids have a 2 hour delay tomorrow. So I need childcare to go to a job I’m not being paid for (at least currently). My bosses are understanding and I can work from home tonight instead, but others aren’t as lucky. #ShutdownStory

I provided @Fintech_Policy an overview of the @CFPB's recent no-action letter and regulatory sandbox proposal. The path forward for acceptance by the states and other regulators remains TBD. Also unclear how @CFPBDirector will respond. But it is still a big step forward.
Eric Goldberg, former Managing Counsel for Regulations at the CFPB and a Partner at Akerman LLP, provides an overview of the CFPB’s proposed innovation agenda, from the sandbox to the new no-action letter policies. fintechpolicy.org/2019/01/04…

Re-write: Brutal and brief cold blast in Northeast will shatter some records. Most of the rest of the world is warmer than normal. This year will be among the warmest years on record for the planet, again. Global warming is indisputable.

With so much of the focus today on which party is up and which is down, I implore you to read this statement from Jennie Taylor, the wife of Brent Taylor, the Utah mayor killed in Afghanistan while on his fourth deployment. His words on how important the right to vote truly is:

I think we need this right now. Instead of (or at the very least, in addition to) arming ourselves, let's try to talk more. Reach out and include. washingtonpost.com/national/…

The air ambulance industry is a travesty. States have tried to regulate prices, like they do for private land ambulances, but are blocked by the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978. The Act successfully lowered commercial prices, but lead to twisted results here.

If an air ambulance service isn’t part of a patient’s insurance network, the operator can charge patients for the portion of the bill the insurance company won’t cover, making a lifesaving flight come with a life-altering bill. n.pr/2NEDcHP

Hey @costco. Why did you send me two emails about cheap cherries today if you weren’t going to have any on the shelves? I went all the way there to come home with $144 of stuff but no cherries.
