@bariweiss listening to interview with Shilo Brooks. You said that at Columbia, you didn’t look at book as a whole, rather analyzed passages. Must be diff eras. I went in the 90s, both courses and student culture very much did books as whole.
I think the single most common answer I get from @ChatGPTapp is this image. To the point where I hit “Enter” on every query and then hover my mouse near the bottom where “Retry” applies. Am I the only one?
We are starting our new podcast series - meet 'Opening AI'!
Literally, we try to open up how AI works in these conversations, and the first episode featuring @avideitcher will walk you through the process of building systems for production, discussing everything from model deployment to inference, and the challenges of bringing LLMs into the real world.
Avi breaks down the concept into three layers, each with its distinct challenges and considerations. Let's explore these layers in detail.

Apparently @united at some point switched from pyjamas on 10 hr to 12 hr to now only 14 hr flights. On the one hand, silly cost saving measure; why hurt the Polaris brand to save ~$15 per pair. On the other hand the new ones are so ugly, I’d rather wear my older pair!
Hmm, looks like they redid the bedding: thinner blanket, thinner pillow, replaced that classic blue cool foam pillow with something not as good. Cost cutting mode?
Been looking at @pkgxdev , esp as I’ve been brew user for many yrs. I still don’t fully get it. Why is `pkgx foo` better than `brew install foo`? Either way, bins and libs must exist somewhere in the system, but latter have them broadly accessible. What is the advantage of pkgx?
Hey @meathead ; do you have any write ups on different breeds of cattle? Was at the butcher, he had both Angus and Simmental brisket. Want to understand the differences for preparing and taste, and who better than Meathead?
In @stratechery, Ben makes non obvious (but correct) comparison between startups buying Sun servers in the 90s to power web sites, and buying GPUs to power model training in 2020s.
This might be mitigated by leasing (ie cloud), but it still is inherently a large upfront cost.
They’d been experimenting with a dog-based solution in the hopes of saving money; that’s a smidgen perilous in my experience, as they’re sufficiently far along the enshittification cycle.
(At this point, expect costs to rise as “growth” outstrips all other concerns.)
I have to give tremendous credit to @EL_AL_ISRAEL@ELALUSA I had to cancel six tickets due to a death in the family. Despite it being non refundable, and the day before the flight, they refunded the whole thing. At a time like this, I especially appreciate it.
Well @RevolutApp just added really large International transfer fees, “up to 5%”. That is massive! The whole benefit was: great FX; all digital; extremely low txfr fees. Why the change? And to think I just signed up for Metal specifically to be able to use those.
I saw you are visiting Israel this week for the interview @p_m_robinson ; are you still around? An American/Canadian expat (with some common friends) would enjoy sharing coffee (or lunch). My DM is open.
Hey @DansDeals any news on United improving their kosher meal offerings? The Fresko food out of Newark is pretty good, the meals out of other airports - IAD, ORD, SFO - are horrid.
Post by @gdibner is right on. Lack of economically rewarding career opportunities in Israel drove a lot of the startups (& immigrants who continued to commute). That def is changing. Not every beautiful home, car, vacations, portfolio came from an exit. mailchi.mp/angularventures/a…
I finally got around to responding to the @a16z article on “trillion dollar paradox” of cloud. I get what they are saying, but find that a key economic driver is missed. blog.atomicinc.com/2021/11/1…
