Great to see our new open access paper out in Water Resources Research on how peatland restoration can reduce flood peaks arriving at towns downstream: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.…@wateratleeds
Extremely worrying. The importance of #wetlands such as this can't be understated.
“The #Pantanal is like Noah’s Ark. It is home to animals that are disappearing … That could be about to change... The Pantanal... could soon cease to exist.”

Hot of the press! Check out our new review paper developing a conceptual model of the complex release of toxic metals and metalloids from peatland fires! tinyurl.com/yh27uua3#PeatTwitter#PeatFire

Results from my peaty "Grand Tour", where I collected 405 surface water samples from 52 to 63°N, showed how varied DOM composition can be, but also how DOM can be clustered to maximise DWT efficiency: doi.org/10.1016/j.watres.202…#PeatTwitter@wateratleeds@rbpmleeds

ALT Graphical abstract of the manuscript, showing a map if site locations in the UK and Faroe Islands, thumbnail photos of six sites, and a graph of results showing clusters of DOM compositions
Super pleased that my first paper based on experiments in my garage 'lab' (#ShedScience) has been accepted for publication 🙂. The topic? The specific yield of peats. More to follow soon.
Have just been asked to examine a PhD thesis ... in August. Reading the thesis, completing an examiner's report, and participating in the defence (overseas) would take at least 4-5 days. I have already planned a full schedule for the next three months. I declined.
I’ll be presenting my CGU Woo Water Lecture titled “The Ecohydrology of Fire Swamps, Wil O’ the Wisp, and Zombie Fires” on Zoom to Leeds Geog.
