Most classic Porsche 911 Turbos spend their lives in climate-controlled garages.
Bill MacEachern chose a different path.
In 1976, he purchased a brand-new Midnight Blue Porsche 911 Turbo in Toronto. At the time, the 930-generation Turbo was one of the most exciting performance cars in the world, known for its turbocharged flat-six engine, wide rear fenders, and reputation for demanding respect from its driver.
Nearly five decades later, MacEachern still owns the same car.
Even more impressive, the odometer has now surpassed 800,000 miles.
Unlike many valuable collector cars that are rarely driven, this Porsche spent its life doing exactly what it was built for. It handled daily commutes, long-distance road trips, changing weather, and decades of real-world use. Through it all, MacEachern focused on regular maintenance rather than preservation for investment purposes.
That philosophy has made his 911 one of the highest-mileage Porsche Turbos ever documented.
The achievement is especially remarkable because early 930 Turbos have become highly collectible. Many surviving examples are treated as museum pieces today, with owners carefully limiting mileage to preserve value.
MacEachern took the opposite approach.
Instead of saving the car for special occasions, he made the occasion driving the car.
His story serves as a reminder that some of the most memorable automotive journeys are not measured in horsepower or auction prices, but in the miles accumulated over a lifetime.
