Summer learning assessments- ‘virtual’ assessment uses calculators to trap kiddoes into algorithms. Gave S’s a dry erase board to show their thinking to model arrays to add/subtract double/ triple digit numeracy problems. Differences between rules & using #models #strategies

One of the traps of algorithms is that they've gotten our brains to believe that we must line numbers up.
We don't have to treat numbers as columns and digits. We can think of the number as a whole.

Aawh! That’s the piece I miss the most! As a learning support teacher I recieved two gifts and had my ‘thank you’ cards ready immediately! I wrote to the students how much they meant to me - they left in tears:) So did I! #goodvibes
