New work from Yasmine Kamen shows that differentiating oligodendrocytes are filled with the zymogen procaspase-3. This provides a specific marker for new oligodendrocytes and suggests a role for this pathway in oligodendrocyte fate decisions.

Thesis Defense Announcement: Please join us on Thursday, May 2nd at 9am in Kellogg 200 to support Genaro E. Olveda @GenaroOlveda in presenting his thesis seminar! @DartmouthGRAD
Dreams became reality through @michael_CUAnsch tremendous PhD work! Thrilled this phenomenal collaboration with @CUNeurophotons@LabRestrepo is out in the wild. Looking forward to helping others leverage the powers of long-term three-photon microscopy 💪🏼🤓🔬
Three-photon microscopy for long-term in vivo three-photon imaging of the entire cortical column and subcortical white matter in adult mice reveals region-specific differences in healthy and regenerative #oligodendrocyte formation

Important contribution and clarification about when and how these amazing cells die by Tim @myelin_nation and other co-authors Yasmine Kamen and Enrique Piedra.
Thanks for highlighting @SfNJournals@SfNtweets
New work from Genaro using oligodendrocyte 2Phatal to determine how dying oligodendrocytes and myelin are cleared from the brain. Genaro discovered that this process is highly orchestrated, carried out by single microglia, and modulated by Cx3r1.

New work by Xhoela reveals how mitochondria change during oligodendrocyte generation. In addition to showing precisely how these organelles are partitioned in the cell, Xhoela also discovered that animal arousal impacts mitochondrial motility in OPCs.

Congrats to MCB @DartGRAD student Xhoela Bame (@bobalhill's Lab) on being selected as one of the top 5 writing winners in the 2023 Science Policy and Advocacy Certificate Program for STEM Scientists! 🥳✍️ #scicomm#scipol
ITSSSSS A NERD SQUAD ROLLLL CALLLLL… Meet: Alicia Pietramale
She’s a third year in Robert Hill’s lab @dartmouth where she is using live imaging techniques to study mitochondrial dynamics in microglia. @NerdsquadI
Look forward to visiting the beautiful Dartmouth campus today. If you are interested in using optical microscopy to study psychedelics, I will give a talk this afternoon @MCBDartmouth@DartmouthNeuro
Congratulations @bobalhill, @dartmouth recipient of a 2022 Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship Award in Neuroscience for the project “Mechanisms underlying the removal of diverse cellular debris in the live brain,” bit.ly/3DYuDAI@SimonsFdn
