Long post:
Yesterday at the
#TexasGOPConvention I was in the Exhibit Hall with my wife and daughter. It was there I noticed a young man about 30 feet away smiling and almost laughing at me. I shrugged it off.
Almost two hours later, after the conclusion of the last general session of the day, we had returned to Exhibit Hall C to finish up some looking around the booths.
As we left the hall, that same young man walked past me, pointed to the yarmulke on top of my head, and said,
“When the next Crusades happen, we are taking back the Holy Land.”
I turned around and asked him to repeat himself. He repeated word for word.
While the crusades were about purging Muslims from the Holy Land and especially Jerusalem, he made it clear that just like the knights of the crusades felt Muslims were an infection, so were Jews considered an infection by this guy.
You could feel it all in the air, the stench of antisemitism.
I called back out as he continued to walk away that he should find his swastika armband, and that he should be removed from the convention. He never faced me and picked up his pace walking away.
That’s what happens with antisemites. They are cowards….and tiny.
Earlier in the day, I posted about a group called “Texans Right To Know” and questioned why that group, which is a antisemitic conspiracy group, was given exhibit hall space.
This incident proves that better vetting, or just vetting at all, needs to happen for conventions.
Plank 283 of the proposed platform says the following:
“We strongly, condemn the rise and antisemitism that has spread worldwide.”
That antisemitism reared its ugly head at this convention.
I do want to say thank you to the other delegates that we’re passing by who witnessed what happened, and offered encouraging words. It goes without saying that the Republican Party of Texas state convention should be the last place that antisemitism should be given any kind of space.
Last night I filed an official complaint with our incoming SRECs for SD1 as well as notifying the executive Director of the Republican Party of Texas
