While working families are facing a crushing affordability crisis, Elon Musk became the first trillionaire. We are seeing the effects of a system that has never worked for working people. But we are clear: Working families deserve better! I will continue fighting to pass my Living Wage for All Act, my Pensions for All Act, and my Equal Tax Act. We will not stop until working families are guaranteed EVERY SINGLE THING we need to thrive.
Elon Musk has become the first person to cross the trillionaire threshold, at least on paper, after SpaceX priced its blockbuster initial public offering at $135 a share. cbsn.ws/4vKWwUo

Hawaii just passed the first state law in the country banning corporations from making political donations in state elections. Now a Koch-backed legal group is suing to overturn it. Big Money won't get out of our politics without a fight — one that we the people must win. (via @LeverNews)

Funding war over providing food and shelter for the elderly is now a part of Trump’s Agenda. Trump’s budget proposed an increase of $700 billion for defense, when the Social Security board of trustees will face a $314 billion shortfall in 2034. Funding social security is not a problem. It’s just not a priority for Republicans. More from @deanbaker13: cepr.net/publications/the-so…

.@Project21News's Horace Cooper has it backward. The kinds of policies we're seeing under this administration is specifically helping Black Americans *become unemployed.* A year ago, @algernon_austin showed how Trump is especially harming Black workers in “The Best Black Employment States — And How the Trump Administration is Hurting Them” Trump is gutting public sector jobs — historically the most important path to stable, middle‑class employment for Black people. To pretend otherwise is harmful, disingenuous, and irresponsible. Dr. Austin's report: cepr.net/publications/best-b…

Cooper: I represent one of the largest conservative African American groups and we believe that the kinds of policies that we're seeing under this administration is specifically helping Black Americans. I was so convinced of it, I actually wrote a book about. Phillip: The Black unemployment rate skyrocketed basically as soon as Donald Trump got into office.

Thanks to Trump's tax cuts for the rich, Social Security's trustees warn the program will be unable to pay out full benefits by 2032. There's only one way to reverse this trend. Scrap the cap on income subject to Social Security taxes.

.@BrandonNovick explains how the GOP's "One Big Beautiful Bill" claims to cut federal spending, yet it has ~0~ provisions addressing #MA fraud. Republicans even rejected Sen. Cassidy's No Upcode Act. Meanwhile MedPAC estimates $76B in overpayments this year alone. bit.ly/3RQFxl1

NEW: Insurance companies submitted fake diagnosis codes to steal $461M from #Medicare in 2021 alone. The government found out, then gave insurers a $13B payment increase anyway. This is what corporate capture looks like. More from @BrandonNovick:  bit.ly/3RQFxl1

Inflation is so high that it's erasing all wage gains. Inflation: 4.2% in May for the past year Wage growth: 3.4% in May for the past year. Americans are getting squeezed financially. This isn't just "bad vibes" about the economy. There is real pain, especially for middle-class and lower-income households. It's tough because so many basic items are seeing sizable price increases: gas, electricity, food, medical care.

214-212, House Republicans pass the ~$70 billion bill to fund ICE and Border Patrol. The Senate passed this bill last week. It now goes to Trump's desk, capping months of clashes over immigration enforcement after the Pretti/Good killings in Minnesota. nbcnews.com/politics/congres…

Working people CANNOT AFFORD a trillionaire. Billionaires are obsessed with growing their already obscene amounts of wealth, at the expense of our jobs and our safety. Organizing stronger unions and building real power for working people is the only way forward. Because greedy CEOs and AI billionaires will never withstand the collective power of our solidarity.
