Victoria's entrepreneurs are too busy paying the costs of street disorder, theft, and vandalism to attend events like these. This $50,000 would have been better directed to security rebates for small businesses.
Victoria taxpayers footed the bill for a nearly $50,000 invite-only one-day forum to discuss the city’s community safety and wellbeing plan, though no new information was presented, according to documents obtained by CHEK News. cheknews.ca/victoria-mayor-h…

🚧 Small businesses shouldn’t be collateral damage from major construction. 📣 Transit expansion matters, but so do storefronts losing customers through years of disruption. With more businesses closing than opening, BC needs immediate relief to reverse its entrepreneurial drought. #bcpoli

CFIB research shows that $0.66 of every dollar spent local, stays local—compared to just $0.11 of every dollar spent at a multinational big box store. Small businesses benefit from local shoppers during the World Cup. ⚽️

May 31 was the deadline to allow direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping. ⚠️ BC missed it. Small businesses need progress on internal trade, not more missed timelines. #bcpoli

ICYMI: This week, CFIB presented its BC Budget 2027 recommendations to the @BCLegislature: 📉 Lower the small business tax rate to 0% by 2030, raise the threshold to $700k, and index it to inflation. 🚧 Compensate small businesses crushed by government construction, like the Broadway line. 🛑 Stop the expansion of the PST to professional services, which drives up costs for everyone. Governments set a May 31 deadline to remove one of Canada's most obvious internal trade barriers: direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping. The result? Only Manitoba and New Brunswick got it done. If premiers are serious about breaking down internal trade barriers, they need to start meeting their own deadlines. Small businesses don't need more announcements—they need action and results. #InternalTrade #cdnpoli
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is raising concerns over the lack of transparency and progress of implementing direct-to-consumer (DTC) alcohol shipment policies, despite governments promising action by the end of May. đź”— For more information, visit: hubs.li/Q04hHRYy0

This is a common sense decision that will support local small businesses, particularly during busy periods. During the BCGEU strike last year, CFIB heard from businesses that were hit hard hit by the government’s liquor distribution shutdown. That is why CFIB called for more options for liquor supply. We're glad to see that made a reality today. #bpcoli

BC landing global events like the #FIFAWorldCup is exciting & brings real opportunity. ⚠️ But with public costs in the hundreds of millions, government needs to match that ambition with action: cut red tape, ease costs, and ensure small businesses actually benefit. #bcpoli

Thank you MLA @gavindew for meeting with CFIB to discuss BC's rising youth unemployment and how small businesses can help create more opportunities. 📢 Small businesses are often a first step into the workforce, but rising costs are making it harder to hire and train young workers. #bcpoli 1/2
