ICMYI: @cfibBC data shows that small businesses overwhelmingly prefer focusing on economic growth and public sector efficiency over tax hikes. Important context as the province and many local governments make critical fiscal decisions in the months ahead. #bcpoli

It wouldn't be possible to share @cfibBC's input at the legislature without its dedicated staff! I'm also lucky to know a few there who are talented soccer players. 😎⚽
Every June, we recognize and celebrate the dedicated and talented staff @BCLegislature, who consistently demonstrate excellence in service delivery to 93 MLAs—not to mention tens of thousands of visitors annually—with an event called Legislative Lights. Today was that day! And this year’s theme was soccer—of course ⚽️. I got to play the role of referee, and the event organizers provided me with a yellow card 🟨, a red card 🟥, and a whistle! (I will be saving all of these wonderful props for QP in October!) To the entire staff team at the Legislative Assembly, who rise to every moment—from late-night sittings to hosting major events—I extend sincerest gratitude on behalf of all Members.

Quite a gross way to treat a witness - one of CFIB’s team @vgasparro. You entirely missed her point. The problem is not just the communications from government - it is the nonsensical criteria themselves. CFIB is doing its job. You seem keen to shoot the messenger.
MP Vince Gasparro (Liberal- Eglinton—Lawrence) jabs/wags a finger at a female witness who questioned the Buy Canada policy because her SME members often aren’t eligible. #cdnpoli #steel. I happened to be sitting behind Michelle Auger of CFIB at the time. #canada

ICYMI: This week, CFIB presented its BC Budget 2027 recommendations to the @BCLegislature: 📉 Lower the small business tax rate to 0% by 2030, raise the threshold to $700k, and index it to inflation. 🚧 Compensate small businesses crushed by government construction, like the Broadway line. 🛑 Stop the expansion of the PST to professional services, which drives up costs for everyone. Governments set a May 31 deadline to remove one of Canada's most obvious internal trade barriers: direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping. The result? Only Manitoba and New Brunswick got it done. If premiers are serious about breaking down internal trade barriers, they need to start meeting their own deadlines. Small businesses don't need more announcements—they need action and results. #InternalTrade #cdnpoli
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is raising concerns over the lack of transparency and progress of implementing direct-to-consumer (DTC) alcohol shipment policies, despite governments promising action by the end of May. 🔗 For more information, visit: hubs.li/Q04hHRYy0

How BC small businesses can help create more opportunities for young workers was at the top of our agenda in today’s meeting with Minister @KahlonRav. Thank you, Minister, for taking the time to hear from CFIB! #bcpoli

It was a pleasure to appear at the BC Budget 2027 consultations today to provide @cfibBC's recommendations to fix BC's entrepreneurial drought. My thanks to Chair @PaulChoiBC and Deputy Chair @DonegalWilson for their thoughtful questions.

Thank you MLA @gavindew for meeting with CFIB to discuss BC's rising youth unemployment and how small businesses can help create more opportunities. 📢 Small businesses are often a first step into the workforce, but rising costs are making it harder to hire and train young workers. #bcpoli 1/2

BC's small business tax rate hasn't moved in nearly a decade, and entrepreneurs are starting to fall behind. We can't forget about the 98% of BC businesses that are small businesses.👇

📢 BC small businesses are caught between a rock and a hard place. With the minimum wage rising to $18.25/hr on June 1 and a looming PST expansion, cost pressures are stacking up. 👇CFIB's @rmttn explains via @BIVnews : biv.com/small-business/bc-mi… #bcpoli

📢 Big win for small business in Vancouver! CFIB, as part of the BC Coalition for Affordable Dependable Energy, pushed back on costly energy rules raising rents and operating costs. More choice, less red tape. Thanks to members who spoke up and signed our petition! #bcpoli

Confidence nosedives among Canada small and mid-sized firms due to elevated energy costs. Firms surveyed in May indicate they anticipate raising prices by over 3% -- or a second straight month they expect price hikes of 3%-plus. On WSJ wires:

I have some sad news to share today. CFIB's founder, John Bulloch, passed away recently in Toronto at age 92. John was recognized as a Member of the Order of Canada for his work in creating our country's small business advocacy organization. John called me a few weeks ago, letting me know he had received some tough news from his doctors. When I visited him in the hospital the next day, his focus was not on himself (even after spending the night in the hallway), but on what was happening at CFIB. CFIB is planning a celebration of John’s life and legacy in the weeks ahead, in our Toronto office. This feels right as, a few years back, I named our office the John and Mary Bulloch Building on their 60th wedding anniversary. On a personal note, I will remember John as a great Canadian, a personal supporter and an incredibly funny and fascinating man. He lived the definition of a life well lived – living independently with the love of his life until age 92 and leaving a legacy of a strong organization focused on building a better country. John, I will miss you. CFIB's statement on founder John Bulloch’s passing: cfib-fcei.ca/en/site/remembe…

Ridiculous!
If you want yet another example of why BC's new PST on professional services hurts our economy, look no further: Businesses with any locations in BC will now have to prorate and pay PST on their accounting services, even if both the HQ and accounting firm are located outside the province. Why bother starting a business or opening a storefront here if you're going to suffer death by a thousand cuts? It's not just the cost, its the red tape that adds insult to injury! Petty tax grabs like this are why we are facing an entrepreneurial drought. The only solution is to scrap this tax hike! #bcpoli
