I hope they're going to flush the peroxide out; if not, we're going to see dead ducks floating in the reflecting pool.

Stable genius has an answer for everything. "Can't we just inject bleach directly into the pool?"

Julia Roberts: Renee Nicole Goode is not a symbol. She is an American woman, a queer woman who was doing the very best she could do to be good in an unjust world. And I am honored to celebrate her life and her legacy tonight, because the life she gave is our responsibility to carry.

This is a portrait I painted of one of many heroes of mine from the Civil Rights movement. The Rev. James Zwerg, circa 1961. He was one of the Freedom Riders, along with John Lewis, William Barbee, Catherine Burks, and many others, who pulled into Montgomery, AL on a bus May 20, 1961. He volunteered to step off first. The mob was waiting with baseball bats, chains, and clubs. They beat him until three of his vertebrae cracked, his nose broke, and every tooth in his head was fractured. They beat him unconscious on the pavement. A Black stranger in coveralls walked up and said, “Stop beating that kid. If you want to beat someone, beat me.” And they did. He saved Zwerg’s life. White ambulances refused to take him. He lay in the street for over an hour. That is the moment I painted. Bloodied suit. Head bowed. At Martin Luther King Jr.’s urging, Zwerg later went to seminary and was ordained in the United Church of Christ. Rev. Zwerg is now 86 and lives in Tucson, Arizona. His courage and conviction, alongside that of countless others, helped save this nation. These are the people I celebrate as we near our 250th anniversary as a nation.

No one actually knows what’s in Trump’s deal with Iran since the administration refuses to release the text, but here’s what I would like to hear Democrats say about what we know based on news reports: ✅Ending the war immediately and reopening the Strait is the best available outcome. Every day Trump delayed would’ve made things worse. ✅Trump lost the war to Iran. Iran now knows it can control the Strait of Hormuz at any time and cripple the global economy. ✅Trump achieved none of his core objectives: Iran still possesses its highly enriched uranium, most of its ballistic missile and drone arsenal, and will almost certainly continue to support proxy groups. ✅The US/Israeli regime change strikes were a disaster for the Iranian people. Iran now has a younger, hard-line Supreme Leader and a more powerful IRGC in place. ✅If the reports about the unfreezing of assets/sanctions relief/reconstruction fund are true, Iran will have access to far more money than it ever got from the JCPOA. ✅Trump could have had a strengthened JCPOA-like deal through negotiations. He was just too impatient to try, and his team was too inexperienced to understand what was on the tabl ✅America did enormous damage to its standing in the world and real harm to poor and developing economies all over the world, which will still face fuel crises and potential famine in the foreseeable future as a direct result of the war. ✅We still don’t know the full scope of the damage to US military bases in the Middle East because the Pentagon is covering them up, but it's safe to estimate this disaster could cost up to $100B in direct costs. ✅Democrats should be skeptical of every claim this administration makes about what's in the deal, and whether Iran follows up. Trump wants this humiliation to go away and change the subject. The result would be an emboldened Iran with de facto control of the Strait. The reason I want to hear Democrats making all of these arguments is because the narrative around this conflict will be set in the coming weeks, and we need to kill off for good this insane, hawkish neocon/FDD worldview that the US can bomb its way to peace.

When the idea of a military parade to showcase American power was raised, President Eisenhower gave a blunt response: “Absolutely not. We are the pre-eminent power on Earth. For us to try and imitate what the Soviets are doing in Red Square would make us look weak.”

"The UFC event captures something about this moment in our history. After all, it’s vulgar, it’s violent, it’s commercial, it’s grandiose, it’s tacky, and it dishonors a place once thought worthy of care and respect. In other words, it’s Donald Trump." open.substack.com/pub/thebul…
