Some of our anti-bullying ambassadors had a productive day at the Anti-Bullying Alliance conference in London today. They’re excited to share their plan of action with students back at school! @ABAonline#unitedagainstbullying 💪🏼💜
On Monday we had our first Science Club session with Mr Cliffe from @OGACADEMY . The children had a brilliant time completing Chemistry experiments to solve crimes! #OPALLScience
Thank you Mr Cliffe for organising and hosting tonight’s ‘Chocolate and Chat’ event to support staff wellbeing. A lovely way to start the half term break! 🍫😀
10 Research-Based Teaching Principles Every Teacher Should Know
1. Start lessons with a quick review. Daily review strengthens previous learning and boosts recall.
2. Use small steps with student practice. Chunk new material in bite-sized pieces so as not to overwhelm working memory.
3. Ask lots of questions. Questions provide necessary practice and help assess mastery of new material.
4. Provide models and examples. Modeling expert problem solving techniques helps students learn new skills faster.
5. Guide student practice. Successful teachers spend more time actively guiding practice to ensure quality learning.
6. Check for understanding frequently. Regular comprehension checks identify areas needing reteaching.
7. Strive for high student success rates. High success during practice instills confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
8. Scaffold difficult tasks. Temporary supports like modeling and prompts facilitate learning of complex skills.
9. Require independent practice. Extensive independent practice builds automaticity and fluency with new knowledge.
10. Incorporate weekly and monthly reviews. Regularly revisiting previous material strengthens connections and patterns.
Mapping out the solar system this week using toilet paper! Students at @HorsforthSchool holiday camp were thoroughly engaged and were shocked to see the distance between the Jovian planets 😮😁🪐
Last term we decided to focus on teaching behaviour explicitly to our pupils.
We had recently maintained our outstanding grade but felt like behaviour wasn't quite where we wanted it to be. We decided to explicitly teach pupils our values.
This is how it went 🧵
From some of my very kind year 11 students at OGA. I have been lucky to teach such hard working students this year, I wish them the best 😁 #teaching#year11#teachingyorkshire
One of the worst things about the #TeacherStrike on Weds is that there will be teachers striking and losing a day's pay who still do work.
They'll mark a set of books, plan lessons, & answer emails. They'll do it because teaching is who they are not just what they do.
Some great results from an exciting Christmas Science camp session @HorsforthSchool! Dissolving candy canes, chromatography and investigating time taken for chocolate to melt ❄️🎅🏻🧪
