i genuinely believe that playing disco elusium is pretty important and you should do that, but i also think that a person who watched gameplay of every route without playing has more authority to speak on it than me when ive only played it like... maybe 1.5 times?
Listen, I watched a ton of let’s plays as a kid for a million games I couldn’t afford, but to act like you are an authority on really anything about something you haven’t played is genuinely larp. Imagine saying “I read the sparks notes of The Great Gatsby and loved it”

you can read plot summaries about games as well, but the difference in knowledge you can get from reading those or watching the actual gameplay is huge. one is just learning about key info, the other requires you to engage with the source material. its hard to treat you seriously

anyway, back to the original tweet – "games are made to be played". and they are!! the letsplayer is actively playing it, you as a watcher are engaging with the source material. its not like reading the summary, youre experiencing the game! who cares if youre doing it differently

^ ive seen someone say that playing AA yourself is mandatory and i say whoooo gaf. "you should figure out the puzzles yourself!" i say theres a difference between "should/must" and "its more fun". lets say i had to look some stuff up when i was 14.... (<- dumb ESL)
