#FeatureFriday: Joe Grier has been with Cothron's for decades and actually started with the company through a high school vocational program in 1987. "There were no locksmiths in my small town of Dripping Springs so that meant driving into Austin to learn and work every day. This is where I had the privilege to be hired by Olen Cothron. That's where it began for me. "I have been here my whole adult life and have learned a lot more than locksmithing during my time here. I started in the shops and moved on to be a mobile service tech, where I specialized in bank work. At that time, you were expected to be able to do any of the work, so you either figured it out or one of the older guys would show you how to do it. "I spent a lot of nights and weekends working afterhours. It's quite an experience, running around in the wee hours of the night; you would have to experience it to know what that's like. Then I moved to electronics to learn more of that part of security. I managed that department for a couple years in the office then went back to the field then back to my locksmith roots and was even in dispatch for a couple of years. "I finally landed in high security and have been here every since. A lot has happened in between all these things, like working with three generations of Cothrons and two generations of locksmiths. I could write a book, but that's it in a nutshell." Joe enjoys solving problems, working with people, and going to places/seeing things most people don't get to, even if just for a moment. He also enjoys his coworkers and their shenanigans. "We have a lot of fun," he shared. "We were even approached once about doing a reality show...The world is not ready for that!" Outside of work, Joe can be found spending time with God, family, and friends, which almost always leads to working on something.

Today, one of our own gave a talk on "Identifying & Ordering Door Hardware" for the Austin Association of Facility & Maintenance Engineers. The goal of the course was to provide the foundations necessary to correctly identify door hardware and generate the part numbers required for ordering hardware from relevant suppliers. Tommy Baze, CAI, AFL previously worked in education, has been a locksmith with Cothron's since February 2020, became a certified ALOA instructor, and provides training courses for his fellow technicians. He was proud to provide insight to some of the engineers, property managers, maintenance engineers, and facility managers of ATX!

When asked what he loves about working here, Brandon replied, "I love a good puzzle, finding out what a customer needs and how I can best achieve it. I [also] feel like I was quickly accepted by everyone on the team and tell my dispatchers all the time [that] if someone is..."

"...stuck on something and you’re about to send me home, send me to help them so we can all go home." What else does he enjoy? "I'm often at the range (with co-workers) having fun. If I’m not there, I can be found working on my home media server or tinkering with my 3D printer."
