Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with
@PahlaviReza about the current situation in Iran. The courageous people who are standing up against the brutal Ayatollah regime and fighting for freedom, the rule of law, and an end to repression deserve our attention, robust support, and more than just words.
Our discussion focused on the perspectives of the democratic opposition, the human rights situation, the regime’s systematic violence, and possible ways for the international community to support those working towards a free and sovereign Iran. We also addressed Mr. Pahlavi’s own role, his vision for a pluralistic political process, and the need for a democratic future for the country.
A democratic Iran would be a gain for its people, but also for regional stability and international security. Europe must therefore continue to pay close attention, apply sanctions against perpetrators consistently, and strengthen civil society voices instead of normalizing the regime through silence.
Freedom and human rights are not a Western idea, they are a universal promise. I thank Mr. Reza Pahlavi for the valuable exchange, which we will continue in the spirit of a free Iran.
Thanks to my colleague
@ilkhanipour for our valuable bipartisan work together for a free Iran.
