Feeling incredibly lucky to climb the same rock as some legendary climbers on Mount Yamnuska.

You've heard of a parking meter that charges for parking. Have you heard of the work METR that charges you for working? Enough. Make work pay.
This is the fruition of long-term investments and talented people starting careers in the province decades ago. These investments are currently being reversed, and we will see the effects years from now. #ableg #abpse #ualberta

The UCP used taxpayer $ to study min wages, realized the study wouldn't help politically, and buried it. This is a misuse of public funds, but harm goes further. Censorship undermines trust in what experts communicate to the public and discourages experts from offering research.

This is great news for us in the Economics Dept. I'm thrilled to have you as a colleague, Andrew! Congrats.
Some personal news, as they say. As of July 1, I was promoted to Professor in the Alberta School of Business at @ualberta. And, on August 1, after 16 years @UAlbertaBiz, I'll be moving to a joint appointment in the Department of Economics and the Faculty of Law at @ualberta. 1/5

Acclimated to 35*C runs, but can’t say they are fun. Thanks Turkey drivers for not hitting me yet and all the honks of what I assume is encouragement ..

Morning trail run up Ha Ling peak to catch sunrise. If it were not for brutal wind, I would have stayed to see the sun peek through.

Seems there are 2 types of kids at our daycare right now: those testing positive for covid and those without access to testing. I feel these last 2 weeks have been the hardest for parents so far, esp those <5.

Ugh! COVID outbreak at our daycare. *Majority* of children and teachers already tested positive, even some parents, across all age groups. We just got tested. Why are teachers/essential workers not a priority for vaccination?

Some obvious econ 101 observations regarding the CPC climate plan: 1. Consider 2 goods: dirty goods are subject to levy and clean goods is subject to rebate. Tautologically, households either spend more on levies or more on clean goods.
So I've done a first read of the leaked CPC plan and have a few thoughts. #cdnecon #cdnpoli

4. Thus the policy has zero effect for some households or it is effectively a 100% subsidy on clean goods for other households.
1
5. Both are inefficient: either by not encouraging some households to reduce emissions at all or by encouraging other households to spend inefficiently on clean goods (their consumption has an nonzero opportunity cost).
