Four-and-a-half-year-old Waseem suffers from advanced patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart condition that has left a 2.4 mm opening in his heart. He urgently needs a cardiac catheterisation procedure using a specialised device to close the defect, a treatment that is not available anywhere in the Gaza Strip. His condition worsens with each passing day, forcing him to move between hospitals that are themselves barely functioning under the extreme conditions of the genocide. The only care they can offer him is pain relief and nebuliser treatments to ease his shortness of breath, while he waits for a chance to leave Gaza and receive the care he desperately needs.
What stands between Waseem and that treatment is the Israeli occupation's total blockade, which deliberately and continuously obstructs even medical evacuation cases, leaving critically ill children to deteriorate while the door out of Gaza stays shut. Every day without treatment raises the risk to his health and his life, threatening both his childhood and his future. His case requires urgent medical intervention before further complications set in, and his family is appealing for him to be allowed out of Gaza for the surgery that could save him.
