Yesterday, I questioned the Chair of the EHRC about the new Code of Practice, and the harm it poses to trans people and others who do not conform to gender stereotypes. The Code suggests employees of a business or a service should enforce restrictions based on evidence such as “the individual’s physique or physical appearance, behaviour or concerns raised by other service users.” When asked to specify what these would be, the Chair couldn't answer and instead spoke about “common sense”. The truth is that people would be relying on gender stereotypes, which are harmful not only for trans people but for others as well.

In the UK, there is now a specific legal duty requiring employers to prevent sexual harassment. If you're working in higher education, ask your HR department what steps they are taking to implement the preventative duty. Some key ideas are outlined in this article.
The UK’s new prevention duty could move the dial on sexual harassment in #HE: the rules should quash the idea that a formal investigation is the only way universities can take action on disclosures or rumours of abuse by staff, says @anna_bull_ of the @1752Group bit.ly/3UIZxoh

Sexual misconduct within the NHS is unacceptable, and must not be tolerated. I strongly encourage every leader in the NHS to adopt these measures. Together we can make a difference.

The government has officially stepped away from their predecessor’s position that the right to strike isn’t protected by the ILO, the UN’s workers’ rights watchdog. A clear signal the 🇬🇧 is firmly back on the right side of global efforts to protect the right to strike. 👏👏

When you look at the state of crumbling public services ( made up of 65% women) and the NHS (made up 74% women!) you can definitely see how making it harder for working mums is the solution we’ve all been crying out for. It’s hard to see how this lot got booted out, isn’t it?

Maternity pay isn’t a ‘tax’ or ‘regulation’ It’s a hard fought workers’ right which boosts economies, fertility rates and keeps women in the workforce Wanting working mums to have more children, but more broke, for ‘personal responsibility’? That’s just garbled nonsense.
Great day at conference and enjoyed some robust media conversations. I don’t shy from difficult topics, but I won’t be misrepresented. Of course culture matters but we need to talk about integration. Of course maternity pay isn’t excessive…no mother of 3 kids thinks that. But we must talk about the burden of excessive business regulation otherwise we might as well be the Labour Party. My campaign is different from others because tell hard truths. It is how we will renew our party, our thinking and our politics.
