Unbelievable but true, signed a book contract today on #AmbedkarJayanti2025 proposing to discuss how Dr A confronted the complexity of competing societal interests over access to resources, thus offering distinctive lessons for charting a climate-just future. #JaiBhim

The evidence keeps piling up. According to the review, the essays show how colonial and post colonial Bengali bhadralok deployed this crucial ideological mechanism: systematic cultivation of anti-Muslim sentiment, rendering “Hindu” identity primary and “caste” secondary.
In documenting the transformation of caste under colonial and postcolonial modernity, Bandyopadhyay and Sarkar have produced an indispensable resource for understanding how domination maintains itself whilst claiming to promote equality. scroll.in/article/1087784/ca… ✍️Ankush Pal (@ankushpal2001)

Very true. You really saw this with the Mamdani scavenger hunt last summer. Many Millennial and Generation Z New Yorkers have a really passionate civic pride in NYC – even though (or maybe because) they're much less patriotic about the U.S. in the Trump era.
These last 12 months have really showcased a new generation that is extremely enthusiastic about participating in historic New York City moments

Been saying for a while B’manism is like Z-ism, but the latter is withering away in the US. India when, if at all?
savarnas hit the roof if any westerner speaks or publishes about Indian history, mythology, culture etc stating any opinion that is not in sync with brahmanical interpretations, and accuse them of being white colonialists! But savarnas will control all conversations on caste and discrimination though they are the oppressor-outsiders in this conversation! Basically savarnas like only one voice - their own. 🤦‍♀️

Yes! For all the posts about the players of DR and PR heritage and chants of Mayor Muslim-Bagel Jewish, it’s not identity politics it’s public goods, the commons: our shared streets, parks, subways 💙🧡
No better PR for walkable cities than the celebration videos coming out of New York.

More aerial footage of the celebration in New York: You see people out on their fire escapes, on their balconies, clinging on the side

Opinion: You might have thought the world’s richest man had enough on his plate teeing up history’s biggest IPO. Yet he has been devoting many of his waking hours to stoking up racial hatred in Britain on his social media site. ft.trib.al/wsenHsI

“It is in cities that voters most routinely encounter, and thereby come to value, public goods.” More than any ideology, ie left, liberal etc, it’s the commons that city dwellers are voting to protect & improve.
A generation ago, Giuliani and then Bloomberg set a template for city governance and urban revival that spread through the US and around the globe, lasting for decades. We may be seeing the arrival of a new paradigm—America's biggest cities turning left. nytimes.com/2026/06/10/opini…

The world will soon have its first trillionaire. It has never been more important to talk details about oligarchy/wealth taxes in India and the US. Many good ideas for this, including @cfa_ind proposed 2-6% tax on the 1,600 richest Indians and California's 5% tax on billionaires.

"We are in extreme danger," says climate scientist Peter Kalmus (@ClimateHuman), who warns that this summer "could be the hottest summer we've ever experienced in our lives, but it could also be the coolest summer for the rest of our lives." Kalmus says he was forced to resign his job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, where he worked for 15 years but faced growing pressure and censorship over his activism.

If a person changes their religion... Does caste disappear too? A major debate on caste and constitutional rights has resurfaced in India. A political party from Telangana has asked a government-appointed commission to consider extending Scheduled Caste (SC) status to Dalits who converted to religions such as Christianity and Islam. The argument is simple: If caste-based discrimination continues even after conversion, should constitutional protections end? Supporters say social exclusion, discrimination, and economic marginalisation often persist despite a change in religion. They argue that public policy should be guided by lived reality, not religious identity alone. The commission examining the issue is expected to study whether Dalits who converted to other religions continue to face caste-based disadvantages and whether existing laws adequately address those realities. For generations, oppressed communities have fought not only for legal rights, but for dignity, equality, and representation. The question remains: Can a change of faith erase a system that has shaped lives for centuries? What do you think? Source: Times of India #JaiBhim #BabasahebAmbedkar #SocialJustice #DalitRights

For what it’s worth, glad to see relatively privileged, not-radical students not only grasp the symbolism of Jai Bhim but wear it on their sleeve. (A noticeable shift from my generation of Savarna liberal)
40 degrees, Jantar Mantar, and absolutely no shortage of energy. I reached the Cockroach Janta Party protest when the media outnumbered protesters. Within hours, the place was packed with students, activists, citizens, masks, costumes, placards, and slogans of “Jai Bhim”, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Godi media chor hai”. The police asked people not to climb walls and trees. Delhi, naturally, improvised. Abhijit Dipke was mobbed from the moment he arrived, so that exclusive didn’t happen. But we did ask CJP leaders some actual questions. PS: The water tanker was emptied in 10 minutes. Kulfi waale bhaiyas saved the day. @hey_eshwar #cockroachjantaparty
