As Chair of the African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change, Kenya presented Africa’s Common Position for COP29 during the Committee of African Heads of State on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) meeting at the sidelines of UNGA79 in New York.
At COP29, Africa calls for $1.3 trillion in climate finance annually by 2030, prioritizing concessional finance to prevent escalating debt, alongside urgent reform of global financial systems. Africa also demands greater support for adaptation, loss & damage, and enhanced mitigation ambition from developed nations, while pushing for the finalization of carbon market rules to scale carbon finance across the continent.
