Anyone notice how clear and dark the southern horizon was last night? Here’s 80 x 30s exp with Canon 6D and Samyang 135mm lens on the most colourful patch of sky the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex, includes Antares and M4

The universe had a VERY photogenic week 📸🌠 This week’s best astrophotos captured exploding stars, glowing nebulae, and the Milky Way stretching across entire horizons. ▶️See the FULL collection: orbitaltoday.com/2026/05/07/…

One question I get a lot is can you see the stars differently from up in space. When we orbit on the night side of the planet, we get a view of the stars very much like being in a very dark place on Earth. And because of our orbital inclination, we get to see the stars of both the northern and southern hemisphere. I captured this shot of our galactic plane from one of the windows of the Crew Dragon Freedom that is docked to the zenith docking port.

I was honoured to carry the words of His Majesty King Charles III on Artemis II. His reflections on science, responsibility, and what we hold sacred stayed close, all the way around the Moon and back to Earth. @RoyalFamily

It’s #SunDay! Here’s your space weather report for the week of April 17 - 23: •6 M-class flares •0 C-class flares •34 coronal mass ejections •1 geomagnetic storm This video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) shows the week’s activity. Two X-class flares erupted right after the end of this reporting period — they’ll be first up in next week’s space weather report! Another thing we *don’t* see here: comet PANSTARRS (C/2025 R3)! The comet is currently passing between the Sun and Earth, and ESA/NASA’s SOHO spacecraft is watching the comet as it streaks across the view of its C3 coronagraph. We'll share more views of that comet later; in the meantime, check the latest imagery here: go.nasa.gov/4ue9ppn Learn more about space weather: go.nasa.gov/4bLKwte
