At Monte Kiffin’s funeral services, Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks said that Monte was the only defensive coordinator he had in Tampa Bay, & that’s when it hit Lane… His father would only leave Tampa for him. Monte Kiffin had head coaching offers & many opportunities to leave Tampa Bay. He refused to go, but he finally left & take a pay cut at the University of Tennessee to be his son’s defensive coordinator.
