In Kenya, Indonesia, and Vietnam, most adolescents with mental health symptoms did not access support services in the past year. This final feature from the national adolescent mental health surveys supplement highlights a critical care gap and the urgent need for accessible, youth-centered mental health services. New open-access research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health highlights the link between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and adolescent mental health in Kenya, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Nearly 1 in 5 Kenyan teens reported four or more ACEs. Those with multiple ACEs had significantly higher odds of experiencing a mental disorder in the past year. This cross-country evidence from low- and middle-income countries highlights the need to integrate trauma prevention and support into adolescent health policies. Bullying affects people’s well-being, yet few national studies in low- and middle-income countries report how common it is or explore its connection to diagnosed mental health conditions. This paper shares findings from national adolescent mental health surveys in Kenya, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Happening Now! The Ministry of Health @MOH_Kenya, #IamAPHRC, and @Guttmacher will officially release findings from a national study on the "Incidence of Induced Abortions and the Severity of Abortion-Related Complications in Kenya." This study aimed to generate critical evidence on the number of induced abortions, the extent of abortion-related complications, facility readiness for post-abortion care, and women’s lived experiences across all 47 counties in Kenya. The findings will provide policymakers, healthcare providers, and reproductive health advocates with useful insights to inform reproductive health policies, practices, and programs, strengthen healthcare systems, and ensure better outcomes for women and girls. #SRHR #PublicHealth #APHRCResearch #ResearchForChange #EvidenceToAction #WeAreAfrica @ReproRightsAFR @KELINKenya @rhnkorg @TICAH_KE @NAYAKenya @Zamara_fdn @KenyaSRHR @CSA_Kenya

@Baobab_RPC hosted a workshop on moving the Ethiopia Humanitarian Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (HVACS) data to action this week. During her opening remarks, H.E Teyiba Hassen, the Director-General of the Refugee and Returnees Service, affirmed the government’s commitment to act on the HVACS findings and protect and empower children and the youth. Displacement often affects young people and children disproportionately, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. The Ethiopian HVACS is the second such assessment globally and is aimed at informing policy action and programming to address the challenges faced by child refugees. #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch

Children and youth in humanitarian crises face heightened risks of violence, yet critical data gaps persist, making it challenging to design effective interventions. Adapting the Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS) for these contexts is crucial to understanding and addressing this issue. This week, we are in Addis Ababa, bringing together stakeholders from the humanitarian sector to discuss how we can move from Data to Action. By leveraging evidence-based insights, we aim to develop impactful strategies that protect and empower vulnerable children and youth. #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch @fdremoe @bonniewandera
