On this #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing evidence-informed policies and actions that ensure every child has access to education, protection, and the opportunity for a brighter future. At #IamAPHRC, we generate evidence that informs policies and solutions to help every child learn, thrive, and reach their full potential. Our work also seeks to strengthen education systems so they are more equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of children, especially those facing the greatest barriers to learning. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.ย  Children belong in school, not at work. #EndChildLabour #QualityEducation #APHRCResearch @CKyobutungi @DMdiarafa @RatemoJuliet @kadzomudzo @DrNampijjaM @KennethOkelo @awuoroloo1 @MDMwanga @OtwatePaul @jauriri2007 @symonmkariuki @ericomari @Espira15 @onyango_silas @CharityWaweru @charleslenjo

The Training Hubs for Statisticians, Epidemiologists in Eastern, Central & Western Africa (ANTENNA) Project has officially been launched in Dakar, Senegal. The project brings together partners from Senegal, Cameroon, and Guinea-Bissau to strengthen health data and research capacity across East, Central, and West Africa. The project aims to develop the next generation of statisticians and epidemiologists through enhanced training, mentorship, fellowship opportunities, and cross-country collaboration. In his opening remarks, Head of Programs, Mat Lowe, PhD, highlighted the critical role of data and statistics in driving Africaโ€™s sustainable development and prosperity. Dr Samba cor Sarr of Senegalโ€™s Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene emphasized the need to strengthen human research capacity and build robust systems that translate scientific evidence into effective health policy. Discussions during the two-day convening focused on governance, curriculum development, the integration of AI and mathematical modelling, and practical learning opportunities to strengthen disease surveillance and public health research. ANTENNA is laying the foundation for a stronger regional network of researchers, data scientists, and institutions working together to generate evidence, inform policy, and improve health outcomes across Africa. #ANTENNAProject #HealthResearch #DataScience #Epidemiology #CapacityBuilding #PublicHealth #WestAfrica #APHRCResearch @IBusulwa , @agnes_kiragga , @CKyobutungi @DKadengye , @mirre02 , @_iswaema @isammygh , @ChristineGer22

The ECD Data Visualization Platform project team has successfully concluded the county-level co-creation engagements and has now moved into the sub-county phase in Isiolo County. The team is currently working closely with local stakeholders to co-design a platform that responds directly to the countyโ€™s unique data and decision-making needs. The discussions have been focusing on critical areas such as data requirements, existing ICT infrastructure, and the anticipated challenges in strengthening monitoring systems to address context-specific gaps in Early Childhood Development (ECD). Isiolo presents a distinct context marked by high poverty levels and limited access to essential services; factors that significantly influence service delivery and, by extension, ECD outcomes. These realities, as captured in this video, were central to the conversations, underscoring the importance of designing responsive, context-sensitive data systems that can inform equitable planning and action. buff.ly/DHDTfe5 @GovGuyo @GDU11 @isioloCounty011 @kadzomudzo @DrNampijjaM @KennethOkelo @awuoroloo1 @MDMwanga @OtwatePaul @jauriri2007 @symonmkariuki @ericomari @mbaya_nelson @Espira15 @onyango_silas @CharityWaweru @charleslenjo

Over the past three days, #IamAPHRC co-hosted theย  #Evidence2ImpactSymposium2026 in Nairobi, bringing together more than 300 participants, including researchers, policymakers, practitioners, youth leaders, and development partners from over 20 countries to advance adolescent-centered policies and programs across Eastern and Southern Africa. The symposium reinforced a critical message: generating evidence is only the first step. Real impact happens when research informs policy, shapes programming, influences investment decisions, and responds to the realities of adolescents' lives. During APHRC's technical session on 'Turning evidence into action: gender norms and very young adolescentsโ€™ health and wellbeing in Kenya, conversations demonstrated that early adolescence is a critical time of transition, and therefore an opportune time for early intervention. #Evidence2Impact #APHRCResearch @RestlessDev @Afidep @GIRLCenterPC @sida @CwKabiru @MangwanaVJ @isabelmutuku1 @aiajayi @EmmanuelOtukpa @OpondoAchy @CKyobutungi @Wekesah @Sidze_APHRC @doris_omao @Liz_Kimani @CarolWainaina78 @WaithereroMaina @njerimbuthia @Chris_Maero @DMdiarafa @amveyange

Like the "Black Death", morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases such as diarrhea and cholera are common in Africa, especially in low-income settings. #IamAPHRCโ€™s @phylis_busienei , Innocent Tumwebaze, John Agira, Dennis Musyoka, and @Shyillah explore how preventing infectious diseases goes beyond outbreak response and demands attention to the conditions in which people live, work, and access essential water and sanitation services. Drawing on APHRC's research across Kenya, the article highlights how poor water quality, inadequate sanitation, unsafe waste management, and poor hygiene continue to fuel the spread of infectious diseases. Through laboratory and field-based research, APHRC is generating evidence to better understand transmission pathways and inform practical solutions for healthier communities. ๐Ÿ“– Read more in In Favor of an Infectious Disease-Free African Continent on pages 18โ€“19 of the latest APHRC Newsletter (Issue 1, 2026). ๐Ÿ‘‰ buff.ly/PI21rPF #ChartingNewFrontiers #IamAPHRC #WeAreAfrica @CKyobutungi @DMdiarafa @amveyange @RatemoJuliet @williamsila @MangwanaVJ @deborahndlovu @ndonyesarah @DorcasOdhiambo @dia_diama @MuliDavis @CharityWaweru @Hope_shete @Waithaka_KE @isabelmutuku1

What if the causes of childhood diarrhea go beyond contaminated food and water? In Kenya, diarrhea remains one of the most common illnesses affecting children, yet its persistence points to a much bigger challenge. As explored by @phylis_busienei , Innocent Tumwebaze, John Agira, Dennis Musyoka, and @Shyillah in ๐๐ž๐ฒ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐’๐ฎ๐ซ๐Ÿ๐š๐œ๐ž: ๐–๐ก๐ฒ ๐Ž๐ง๐ž ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐‚๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ƒ๐ข๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐ก๐ž๐š, the drivers of diarrheal diseases are deeply interconnected, spanning human behavior, environmental contamination, animal management practices, and access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. Drawing on evidence from #IamAPHRC's research in Kenya, the article highlights how environmental contamination, animal management practices, sanitation, and human behavior collectively shape disease transmission, and why a One Health approach is essential for lasting solutions. ๐Ÿ“‘Read more in the latest APHRC Newsletter (Issue 1, 2026), pages 16โ€“17. ๐Ÿ‘‰buff.ly/PI21rPF #ChartingNewFrontiers #IamAPHRC #WeAreAfrica @CKyobutungi @DMdiarafa @amveyange @RatemoJuliet @williamsila @MangwanaVJ @deborahndlovu @ndonyesarah @DorcasOdhiambo @dia_diama @MuliDavis @CharityWaweru @Hope_shete @Waithaka_KE @isabelmutuku1
